Question Evo 9 boost is higher than normal

Problem: My boost is max out on my gauge at 30 psi.

I just bought this evo 9 gsr about 2 weeks ago at 63k.

Things I did to it:
1. Installed an aftermarket air filter, autozone brand.

2. Installed an aftermarket BOV, didn't have a brand so I assume it is an Ebay brand.
The previous owner gave it to me for free when I bought the car.

3. I replaced the MAF because the IAT was bad with code P0113. Did all testing and it was the IAT. I cleared the code with an OBD-II scanner.

Now, the CEL is not coming back on, but the car is running at max boost, at 30psi. At least that's what my gauge is telling me. What is the normal boost psi on a stock Evo 9? Before I did any of the above, the boost was fine.

Thanks for any advice guys.

~19 is stock

reinstall the stock BOV, see if that fixes it. just because you have something aftermarket doesn't mean it's good

Check the vac line to your wastegate.

Does the car have a manual boost controller on it?

Was it hitting 30 PSI before you messed with it, or only after you made the changes?

hmm.. i putted the stock BOV back on and still does the same thing. It happened after I putted the aftermarket stuff on. I haven't check the vac to the wastegate, but when I drive the car normally it doesn't affect the way the car drive.

The car doesn't have any boost controller.

@sparky
I'm from Marysville/Yuba City area.

Does the ECU have to relearn everything before it goes back to normal? I have driven 25+ miles on it already since I reset everything.

You shouldn't be boosting 30 psi on a stock 9. You should check your vacuum lines like stated above and buy an MBC. I have one I'm not even using so if you really want it pm and you can have it.

Oh you're in the Sac area, huh? Too bad that you aren't a bit closer to The Bay Area as I am in East Bay for a few days. If you were to get a MBC soon I would install it for you. This should take care of the problem.

If your car is still running on the stock boost control circuit then I would suggest returning everything to stock until you can get a tune. 30 psi IS SCARY HIGH BOOST on 91 octane. I would advise extreme caution until you get it sorted out.

There are some excellent tuners in the Bay Area and it might be beneficial for you to take the hour drive and get your car setup and tuned correctly.

If the boost is maxing out your gauge, have you checked the gauge is installed properly? What is you vac reading at idle?

Did the car have mods when you bought it?

The car came stock.

The installation seems ok. I haven't ran a thorough inspection though.

The vacuum at idle is between 18-20.

could it be my factory boost control circuit is bad?

did you mess with the boost gauge? 30 psi is quite high for a stock 9.

you should stop getting into boost until you resolve your problem. are there local evo shops near you that are reputable that would be the first course of action.

This sounds like a good plan. Let BoostedTuning sort out the boost plumbing issue and then have them tune it for you. And as mentioned above by zeus1.....try to stay out of boost till then.
