bb red and bb black

For the guys out there rocking the ball bearing red and black setups, are you satisfied with it? Looking for reviews on these new pieces, numbers and powerbands.

I know, it's hard for me. I was going to order the black, but my tranny went. So I spend the money on a shep. Now I'm back at the plate.

I see lots of dyno reviews about them and everyone seems to be happy with them. One thing I haven't heard anything about is any fail rate since they went to the new ball bearings. I haven't read one thing about a new one failing.

Yeah, hopefully they do not fail anymore like the old ones were doing. $2500 is a pretty penny for a turbo and hopefully get what you pay for.

Dude make your mind up on a turbo already. With every turbo your gonna be giving up something to gain something, no such thing as a perfect turbo

I cannot justify paying 2500 for a turbo. Thats just nuts

From all the reading I have been doing, the red only spools up 200 rpms faster than the black. The black will make alot more power up top. I think the FP Black is the way to go from what I have read.

Your HTA86 is 1800, plus a t3 manifold in whatever flavor you like for another 1000, plus LICP, etc.... The cost is fairly effective for the capability of the turbo. Kinda hard to call someone nuts for spending 2500 when any t3 setup will be considerably more.

For the OP, I have run a T3 35r, and a TS T4 40r on my car before going to the journal bearing Black. I don't believe there are better turbos for a primarily road driven evo than the Red or Black. For reference I made 605/511 at 34psi with mild cams and an unported head. Full boost in 3rd is at 4450 rpm. I have have yet to push my ball bearing Black past 32psi, but I plan to go to 40psi in the future. Should be interesting as it hits boost even sooner.

Either way, you can't go wrong with any of the stock framed turbos.

The stock framed turbos are twinscroll, so add 2 $400 wastegates to that comparison too.

Curious on how much faster a BB red or black spools compared to journal? Rebuilds can't be cheap either I'd imagine.

i see how this is gonna go. im not here to compare prices on set-ups. if you wanna spend that much money on a stock frame turbo, then go ahead and do it.

people act like you bolt on a black or red and automatically make top power on them. dont compare the costs on the setups, cause your gonna be spending about the either way you go.

That is exactly my point. You can't call one way nuts and pricey, but say the other way is cheaper/better. You brought up the cost initially, I just gave you a counterpoint to prove how pointless the cost truly is.
