Noobe with easy?? Cant find in Search

Hey all Im a new evo owner with a simple question that i cannot find the answer too. I have tried the search with no luck, maybe im just not wording it in the right way.

Anyways, what engine block fits the 2003 Evo 8? I am wanting to find a used block and build from there while i still drive the car. Will all 4g63t blocks fit? Im sure there is a link on here just cant find it. Any help would be great. Thanks

Some previous 4G63s will fit, from 96 on EVO (4+) engines will fit. I'm not sure of the layout of your DSMs.

I'd recommend not going with an older block though. Even if you intend to build it, Mitsi still made improvements on it through the years. Go with an EVO 8 or 9 block.

If you have an evo 8, you have to buy a 03-05 block. Mivec bottom end won't work with an Viii head.

Only reasons I can think of is because there is one already lying around in his garage or price.

Im not wanting to go with a differnt block. I am wondering what block I need, as I thought it was a 4g63. It sounds like I just need an 03-05 evo block. Is there a model number on this block or is it just know as the evo block? I really want to build an evo block to put it with better internals so i wont have much downtime and can still drive the car then just sell my old block. Thanks guys

no they are not....the IX blocks have a different sized feed for mivec...you need an 03-05 block for an VIII.

You can modify a VIII bottom end to accept a IX head. You can't put a VIII head on a IX bottom end.

***Not to mention modifying the harness if you are going to run a IX motor/head in an VIII

Hmm odd since when I talked to two of the most active vendors on this site they told me otherwise a few months ago.

***Maybe thats just cause they don't do it on their cars
