Lightbulb Evo 9 Block Evo 8 Head

Ok I blew my Evo 8 motor and I purchased a Evo 9 block. I have done searches on here for two days and cannot find any info on this topic that is 100%. According to who ever I talked to at buschur racing the "passages" are differrent I dont know what poassages he was talking about, but Ron begs to differ, So I called RS motors where I purchased the evo 9 block and Ron says that all I have to do is block off the oil passage (Mivec oil supply) on the rear of the block and move my oil pressure sending unit sensor to the oil filter houseing. Luckly I have a sandwich adapter with a free port so in theory I should be fine. I get the block next week, so I will update when I find out for sure, that way the next person that tries to do this swap doesnt have such a hassle finding out if it will work.

I was trying to find some info about the differences between the evo 8 block and the evo 9 block, I found this on tristatetuners.com ------>>> A five-layer metal head gasket design with revised coolant passage holes replaces the three-layer metal unit to better withstand the engine’s elevated, forced induction fed cylinder pressures. The pistons in the Lancer Evolution are made of a stronger alloy and are sealed to the cylinder wall using a more efficient two-piece ring package, replacing the previous three-piece ringset. This revised ring arrangement helps reduce the engine’s oil consumption by 10 percent.<<<<------ has anyone ever heard of this info before?? It says revised coolant passages on the head gasket? but I have read forums here saying that people have used 8 blocks with 9 cylinder head, so the cooland passeges must be in the same location on both blocks right? also no matter where I look for head gaskets they all say 2003-2006 lancer evolution, it seems both models of the evo use the same head gasket?

I found this article on edmunds that confirms different oil rings ^^^^

yes i did the install. rather than putting the oil pressure sensor on the oil filter housing I simply found a metal bushing to adapt the larger hole on the block to the thread of the oil pressure sensor

The metal bushing is kind of difficult to find so heres a link to the site where I purchased mine>>>> M12x1.25(M) - LMA086

So I just got the bushing adapter in the mail, put some teflon tape on it screwed it into the block, perfect fit. All though I tried to tighten it with a wrench and the threads snapped off in the block, luckly they came out easy. I am going to try to find a tap and die for 1/8" NPT and make my own out of a m12x1.25 drain plug I got at ace hardware, I will keep you updated.

so you just used the oil passage for the mivec and hooked up the oil pressure sensor with an adapter?

I'm going to be doing this also in the coming weeks. any updates??

It uses a drain plug m12x1.25 make sure you use a metal crush washer on it or it will leak, another option would be to attach a line to that hole and route it to a vacuum distrbution block and run you oil pressure sending unit to that. I was goin to do that because i have a oil sending unit for my hks gauges too.
