Question Evo 8/9?

Im saving up to get my self an evo and sad part about that is that i will have to head to the states to get one.

I have been looking and all i see is 10k+, if thats the case and i dont find nothing cheaper my plan will have to go down next year due to my wedding.

Have a question tho.

So i have been looking around and i found a evo 8 with salvage title at a really good price.

My question is.....Instead of going down to the states and picking up a evo cant i just get the salvage evo gut it completely to the bone, then bring all those parts with me and put them on a lancer?

Will the holes match up in the rear to bolt up the subframe and same goes for the motor?

Parts included in the package:

Engine, tranny, rear diff, axles, drive shaft, gas tank, some body parts as some are mest up, interior.....dash, seats, steering wheel, carpet, All electrical components, brembo brakes and hardwear........Etc, basicly the complete car minus the shell.

I will obviously put the time into doing it all, along with converting the body to the proper styling.

Can anyone input or link me to someone who has doen this.

If i get the answers im looking for i will have an evo sooner then later and bonus, i will be paying lancer insurance.

If it cant be done i will just keep saving for that evo.

Keep saving. It won't work without a lot of modification and it still won't perform like a real evo. Save up til you can afford a clean car.

Best advice. Be patient. Wait until you have enough money to buy a clean, not beat to death car.

There is more to an Evo than just bolting on the drivetrain... even if you could do so, it would take forever, be less reliable, and probably cost more than just buying a clean Evo. Also if you are balking at $10k, you should probably look into getting a DSM instead of an Evo, that might be more your price range.

I want to get an evo im just curious if it can or has been done.

If it can be done i could take that route and swap out stuff i dont need and or modify it to how i want it.

How will it not be as reliable if it will be a full build from the ground up?

P.s- she will see the track, so a full coilover setup will be put on her along with a meaty tire setup.

If you plan to make it a track only vehicle then try to find a rolling chassis that way you can really build it the way you want and it will more then likely be a cheaper cost of entry to get one.

Im not really looking to have a track only car, it would be sick tho.

I want something i can go to the track with throw in my track rubbers inside swap it at the track the kill it and do a few laps. then chill swap back tires go home.

Must have full interior.

DD/track car type of thing but just love the evo, my cousin will be in a subby and i must destroy him. Evo>subby

Never gonna happen for cheap, Taxes in Ontario and import fees, blah blah.

Even if you save up for one, you should have another $5k for incidentals(trans, clutch, TC , etc)

Im not looking to cheap out, im a gearhead to the core i will do it right or not at all.

Im just saying if i could build something to be exactly like the evo and not have to pay the import tax all that jazz.

But if i have to import one i will do it not a problem.

Don't do that lol just save up for an evo, even if you do buy one for 10k my instict would tell me that it needs work and the owner wanted to get rid of it, or it's a salvage title. Justsave up for one at least 17k and you know your getting your money's worth for a clean reliable evo. Just my opinion xD

And just to add on, nothing is worse than buying a cheap evo, it's just a money pit and would add up to the cost of 2 clean ones lol

Save money and buy complete car. If you buy a shell and drivetrain seperate, would cost mor
e than buying the car together. Also you would have to go through the trouble of putting it together.

you can find an evo for 10k flat or alittle under if you do some searching.
if not waiting 1 year cant hurt and prices will be lower because the cars s a year older

Thats the thing i dont mind putting in work i love to build stuff been doing it since i was 9 so it dosent really bug me, have had over 8 cars in my life all of which i wrenched on.

The price that im looking to get the lancer and complete evo (salvage) is around $2500 price is awsome, mind you the lancer is a working car...works normal drives and everything already registerd where i live, so i could drive it normal untill i have everything that i need to get it done.....then dump the rest of the evo fund on upgrading the turbo, suspension....etc

Thats why im asking, that way i could go to the states buy the evo gut it completely and bring everything back dont have to register the car, il have all the paperwork on the car and all the receipts from the scrap yard for the shell and all i just have to pay taxes on is what i paid for, i wont have to go through all the importing drama.

Im just doing research, sounds like a good plan to me but if it cant be done then il keep saving and get my evo.

So far im pretty good on my savings need a few more g'z then i can bring my evo home just want to make sure first, why not right?

I personally wouldnt buy the evo parts and gut it and throw it on the lancer heres the reason why. Okay first you have the lancer evo it has alot of chasis suspension reinforcement whch makes it handle the way it handle. Ontop of that the base lancer even with a evo swap still wouldnt perform the way it would it would because its components are in the wrong chasis.

So just be patient and get the evo when your ready thats all youll come out better int he long run especially if your trying to sell it. Youll have people saying oh this isnt a evo lancer and no matter how much you put into any car your not going to get the same amount you put back into it. But with the evo atleast you can to some degree since people tend to hype over these cars like theres no tommorrow.
