That being said. I vote yes (my second map is e98 ^_^ )
I'm not sure how e85 is around your area but I've gotten it in 2 different states at 5 different locations and it always ran the same. So as long as its not a Mom&Pops type gas station I wouldn't worry. Also, my car has sat for several weeks with e85 in the tank and still ran the same as it did before sitting.

Question to everyone who now runs E85.

I plan on doing an E85 tune this spring. With that said, ever since Mellon Tuning posted that thread about his head lifting due to his injectors becoming clogged, I've had second thoughts.

Are you guys worried about this happening to your car? Has it happened to your car? What do you do to prevent or help prevent the gunk build up?

I've been considering just using C16, as it's actually easier to get than E85 is (since I'm closer to a race gas station....yeah they don't carry E85). If I got an E85 tune, realistically, I would only use it when I go to the drag strip, unless a station opens closer to me.

I've heard to run a tank full of 93 to clean out the system just to be better safe then sorry.

^^ this is what I am talking about. Letting the car sit w/ e85 can rust the injectors because the alcohol absorbs water from the air. If your car is going to sit all winter, run a full tank (if not two or 3) of pump gas through it BEFORE you let it sit. I killed a set of id2000's last year leaving e85 in it (luckily ID replaced them). ID says that even allowing the car can sit for a week can cause this under the right conditions. This doesn't include the gunk issue experienced by mellon. Basically plan on running a tank of 93/91 through for every 4-5 of e85 or every 2 months. You may get lucky not doing it, but as Mellon showed - catastrophic **** can happen.

See I've also read to run a tank of pump after a few tanks of E85.

What scares me is I've also read some people injectors will gunk up after less than 20 miles, so running pump through wouldn't help in this case.

I wish we knew what the root cause was and I wish there was a way to test for it before you filled your car up.

I was wondering whether or not to maybe try an e85 tune when I get my car running up too. I think I am gonna stick with pump though. Maybe get a meth inj kit if I need that extra ummph.

Too, e85 might not stick around too long with the subsidzing law that has passed, or they are trying to pass. Cant remember lol. If e85 costs rise, the only people still buying it will be the guys running it for race gas at the pump. I kept this in mind as I ony have two stations in town with it now and I thought it was a pita when I had the e85 tune before.

If you do it, DEF. get a dual map.

Oh and about the injectors. When I pulled my old pte 1000s out to replace with my 1250s, they were gunked up pretty bad.

Dual map tune is where it's at.

In my case it will be 91/116 tunes. I have no E in the area, and will have to barrel it either way.

The smell of race fuel is hard to beat, and the only thing it gives up over E is egt's and cost. I like the idea of more lubricity, higher octane, and less corrosion when using gasoline. For the amount I use it, I won't hardly notice a difference in cost between the two.

Definitely go for the E85/Gas tune if you are able.

if use for a long period, won't the E85 eat up the fuel lines as well?
