Holy crap, what was the labor rate of the shop you took it to? We're $100/hr here in Bellevue, Wa - Book time is 10 hours for an evo9 5 spd. Pfft, DEALS on the east coast I guess. LOL

JIC - 10x100 = $1,000. Ouch.

I had a friend do mine for $400. So I would say it is a fair price. One shop quoted me like $900 and that was a "discount"

That is normal as long as they have done an evo clutch before! Also, I use motul gear 300 in my transmission and redline shockproof in my transfer case. It's what I've used in gtr's for years and works great for my evo.

I don't know about the 5-speeds, but I've done two clutches on my MR and I would gladly pay someone $600 to do it next time (I'd probably pay up to $750 in labor, even).

The first time I changed the clutch was on a lift with a buddy and it took about 5-6 hours. The last clutch job was done on a garage floor and I ran into all kinds of issues (messed up the TOB trying to 'pop' it and had to unbolt the flywheel and cut the diaphram off of the pressure plate lol). The result was several days of working on it and receiving a inguinal Hernia (not a joke).

While we have it easy when it comes to accessing our engines and turbos, it balances back out when you work on the trans and T-case. I loathe trying to "wiggle" the 6-speed back into place. Such a tight damn fit. I have nightmares thinking about the next time I have to do the clutch, especially since I don't have access to a private lift.

You are definitely not getting robbed by paying $600 for a clutch job on an evo.

That's not bad... Like it has been stated, the dealer/book quotes a 10 hour job, at $100/hr.

40% off

If you've done it yourself ever... $600 is well worth the saved aggrivation. I did mine once and never again. I'll pay to have it done from now on.

Fair price, as long as you know the shop does quality work.
Clutches aren't too hard just HOURS of time to make sure everything is precise and in proper working order.
As for the slightly off topic, I use redline mt-90 in the tansmission and Diaqueen in the t-case/diff.
Seems to work quite well and was the recommended setup from various shops/people.
