60K mile install questions / concerns

I just did a complete 60K install which includes the balance belt, timing belt, water pump, and etc. and about a month later I'm starting to hear a "honing" sound from that side of the engine. Anyone have this same prob? did u figure it out??

I have a feeling that I torqued the timing belt tensioner too tight. But anyone who has done this while the engine is in the car knows how difficult it is to torque that thing as there is very little space to fit a Torque wrench in. It is right between the frame and the engine giving you about an inch of space...... I ended up using a really good needle nose snap ring plyers, popping them into the two holes, and then tightened the bolt down.

If thats the case then im worried about any things going wrong if its too tight... could it wear out my bearings fast??? i duno.

Another thing I could think of is maybe the alignment of the timing belt or balance belt... Thing is Ive checked it over and over... the car has been driven a while and checked afterwards.. no visible wear on it.

Could it be the alternator belt?

Could it be a crankshaft bearing issue?

Could it not be related to it?? lol.. hard to tell.

could it be anything else??

I guess the next step is to run it and listen closely exactly where that sound is comming from. And maybe tear out the covers and double checking my work. Too damn cold out here to do it but someone has to.

Thanks

I wish I had someone to help me do mine haha. Waiting to pick it up from the shop this morning.....almost 900 bucks later. I haven't done this myself but I would assume that having the tension too tight could put premature wear on the bearings. Just my .02

Did you turn the motor over one complete revolution, let it sit for 15min or so and check belt deflection?

Thanks guys

Yea your right, premature tension is not a good thing. Im just way too darn lazy to tear it all apart again... especially in this cold weather.

Yes Ive checked the timing over and over.. I tend to Quadruple (is that how u spell that?) check the timing before I fire it up..... most likely it wont start up if the timing is not correct. What I did fail to do is check all the pulleys that were left alone to see if they turn properly without resistance.

so Ive been driving this around... and periodically removed the Cam cover to check the seating of the belt.... still perfectly centered.

I had a time frame of two days to do this repair so i didnt have much time.
