sounds kind of like a cv joint. if you rev the engine without noise makes it seem drivetrain related. does it sound like it is more on one side or the other?

it is hard to tell what side it is coming from, i am not sure. However, just noticed that when the car is idling, I put my ear up to the front drivers side wheel well and I can hear a steady knocking or tapping coming from somewhere in there.

If that's the case I hope it's not what I first thought. Google videos on rod knock. Also what kind of oil are you using and when was the last time it was changed?

I would guess that the rattle from the clutch is just the sound of a stage 3 clutch. I had one in my eclipse and it rattled really bad. Called the company and they said it was perfectly natural. The other knocking noise could be a stuck lifter, rod knock, bad throwout bearing, cv joint. Hate to say it but sounds like its time to start eliminating causes.

Thanks for the reply thekidd....it isn't really a rattle though its a pretty distinct knocking. Oil looks fine..not sure about oil pressure because I do not have a gauge. I am not as mechanically skilled or knowledgeable as many of you are on here so I am just taking it to R/T tuning this week to have them look at it for me. Thanks again for the replies so far guys and keep em coming if anyone has any other ideas. Much appreciated.

OP,

I am not sure if my issue is the same or not, but I noticed a knock when in first gear as well. I thought that a motor mount was busted so I decided to get the Blox TQ mount and during the install I noticed that the bar that the mount is bolted to was not tight at all. I am sure that the noise that I heard was just the Xbar that is under the trans moving back and forth.

Take a look at that.....

Thank you for the insight wright it could very well be that or something like it....seeing as the car is driving fine. Can't be sure, but i am hoping it is something along those lines lol. I will take a look at it. Thanks you!

Let us know what R/T tells you. This would be good to know info for the future.

Yes i absolutely will. I am anxious to get it in and fixed. Have had some recent developments as well. Car runs great right after a cold start (aside from knocking noise) however after a little bit of driving and everything heats up it drives very sloppily and strange. Hard to describe. vibrations and gearbox gets sloppy (lock outs and rough shifting)....also after driving for a little bit the car seems rough at idle....stays pretty much at 900 rpms which is normal but i get vibrations and a "rough" feeling and the oil light starts flickering at idle sometimes. also when engaging the clutch in first gear from a stop the rpms seem hesitant as in when i rev up to 1500 or 2000 to release the clutch it seems kind of sluggish and not responsive / smooth. Also noticed a pretty loud humming noise or whine at idle (sounds kind of like fuel pump whine). Still the same knocking in first gear as seen in the video as well I am beginning to think this is all inter-related somehow (im hoping so anyway). Trying to not absolutely lose my mind before friday .....this is all scaring the absolute s*** out of me seeing as i just bought the car off my buddy. Fortunately for me he's my best friend and agreed to foot the bill for whatever is wrong because he never had a single issue with it and he feels bad about it. I will be sure to post the results from R/T. I am confident they will be able to find the problem or problems and resolve them.

Hey I just wanted to give everyone who commented an update. Had it at R/T tuning today. The transmission (5spd) is pretty much toast. they drained the fluid and a very large piece of gear metal slid out and the fluid was filled with metallic flakes. Now on the hunt for a used 5spd trans in good shape =(
