2006 evo mr cuts out/back firing under heavy throttle.

Hello,

Own a 2006 evo m6. Car is pretty much stock. Perrin Intake and stealth Catback. About a week ago it starting missing at heavy throttle. I installed new Ngk irdium plugs. The miss went away. Just got back on a short trip and noticed the miss is back?

So at WOT it's breaking up? Sounds like spark plugs to me. Pull them out and check the gaps/condition of the plugs.

Be sure to check the two plugs that aren't under the coils. Good indication the the wires could be going. I'm having the same sort of issue, checked my plugs, which were basically brand new. Plugs under the coils were fine, gap was still fine. Plugs that were under the wires were darker, and the gap had opened up.

The car has almost 70,000 miles. Running the NGK iridiums. Dealer who i purchased the plugs from told me do not gap iridium plugs. Stock fuel pump. Yes at WOT its breaking up. Original plug wires and coils. I am the second owner of the car. Purchased it from a 68 year old guy in California that babied it.

This is why the dealer told you not to gap the Iridium. Becasue of the potential to mess up the coating on the tip IF done imporper.

If you don't want to mess with the Iridium plugs buy some NGK coppers BR8ES, at $2.50 a piece and gap them to .22 and run it WOT and that dhould hopefully answer some of your issues.

its a ix the copper will not work. Also check all of you clamps and it might not be a bad idea to do a boost leak check. You will probably find a small leak at the t/b seals

The IXs require iridium plugs in order for MIVEC to operate correctly, if I recall... Seeing as how that was the largest change from VIII to IX.

It's just how the head was engineered. It's a similar story to the mighty Toyota JZ engines, anything but NGK V-Powers is a waste of time, even in a 800+ hp setup.

BTW, sounds like a coil issue to me as well.

Yah, I'm stickin by the coils or wires. 70k is up there enough that the wires or coils could be going. Check the gap on the plugs. Hell, looking at the color of the plug will tell you alot about how your motor is running....

Mivec is simply valve timing (specifically overlapping). The plugs have nothing to do with it.

iridium plugs: Better spark , run colder plugs with less carbon/fowling , longer life....

Go with some Denso's or OEM spec.

First things first:
Boost leak test
Correct plug gap 22-24
clean MAF
