Oil temperature sensor
Oil temperature sensor
I have an Evo VIII sold in USA. Today running in Sweden. This car is equipped with an oil temperature sensor. Unfortunately this sensor is broken. I have talked to Mitsubishi Sweden but they cannot help me. Could anyone help me with this? What is the part number, where can I get it? I have tried to e-mail a couple of Mitsubishi retailers in the states but with no answers.
I don't think that is an oil temp sensor. I have one on my car and my car doesn't have oil temp. That looks like the oil sending switch

I just went through this whole process when I put stock MR gauges in my SE. That is an oil temp sensor in the pic, it replaces your factory drain plug. It has been discontinued by Mitsubishi and the worst thing is that the gauge and temp sensor are calibrated together. So even if you could find another one, which is a huge pain in the states and probably next to impossible in Sweden....it won't be accurate unless you have the gauge that went with the sensor. I bought the entire kit out of an MR and the gauge and sensor both had a sticker with a matching number on it and everything works fine. Sorry to give you bad news, but you either need to buy different gauges, find a gauge and matching sensor used, or buy the entire gauge cluster kit new, which is about $400.

Thank you all for all replys on this issue. I´m surprised of all these replys, this is the first time I use this forum.
I searching the forum, and found out that I am not alone with this problem. Someone had posted a link http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/cart/...&pn=MZ360086EX
Could this be the kit I need. If so I guess the sensor and the gauge should be calibrated with each other?

Mine was broken. I fixed it but it was inconvenient for doing oil changes. The way I fixed it was to pull off the swivel cap thing and solder the wires directly to the probe and ground to the body. Of course that meant I needed to disconnect the sender every time I did an oil change. I bought another used one and IMO it doesn't seem THAT different in readings. I'm getting pretty much the same readings as my original. Maybe 5 degrees higher but thats probably because my car gets pushed harder now than before. I use it generally as a guideline, I don't need to know to the nearest 0.01 Celsius.
To me knowing oil temp is very useful. Its a good indicator of when I'm pushing too much, and how long I have to do cool down laps before pitting. Like I know if I pit when the oil temp is reading 110 then I didn't cool down enough and my brakes will be smoking in the pits, but when I pit when it reads 90 then everything is cool and happy.

I had an extra of the oil sensor and plug for the MR gauges (bought a set of gauges cheap online that came with 2) and kinda kick myself for selling it off. I noticed that a lot of other guys have had the sensor not work after a while due to the poor construction of the unit. I know when I did go to Mitsu to ask if they sold the part, they told me it was only sold as a full set of gauges.
Your best bet is to buy a set of MR gauges for cheap with the oil sensor or just upgrade to a new set of gauges.
If my oil sensor ends up going out on my MR gauges, I will be upgrading to Defi's. It will be a good excuse, since the boost gauge isn't really accurate and who needs a volt gauge (my 350z also comes with one stock, they must be popular in Japan lol).

Boost gauge is pretty good with accuracy! I've measured it against my 3bar MAP sensor. Reasonably accurate. Just hard to immediately know what its saying because of the mental math to convert bar to psi. The voltmeter is only useful for tuning idle/low rpm driveability and knowing when something is wrong with the battery/alternator/electrics.
I'm actually upgrading my gauges but keeping the oil temp and voltmeter gauges tucked away. They're not gauges I care to see all the time but are useful sometimes.
