New Evo owner here, askin' some questions
Hey guys, I just picked up my first Evo, it's a 2003 Evo 8 with 57K on it, it has Buschur Racing 3 inch Exhaust, Apexi N1 coilovers, it just had the Timing belt, water pump, balance shaft belt, tensioner and all the gaskets changed out, with new headgasket and ARP headstuds.
I have a few questions, are those coilovers any good? Is it suspicious all the gaskets were just replaced? The Carfax came back perfect. And are ARP headstuds any good?
Also what mods should I look at first if I wanted to start lol
Thanks!
Also, I have a Seibon CF trunk, that's painted to match the car, with no wing on it, would it be hard to grab a CF wing from here ( http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...1&bestseller=Y ) and put it on the car myself? or should I have someone else do it for me?

I would leave it wingless! Much better look IMO. Yeah the head studs are good I run them. I would look at a LICP and a 9 BOV first with a nice intercooler from AMS, ETS or buschur. Then for future go with cams a kelford 272s with upgraded valve springs and ti retainers and bigger injectors and an E85 tune. Then upgraded turbo to like a FP red. Should be great! Enjoy the car though post some pics 👍
I will post pics as soon as I clean the Damn thing lol and it has an intake I forgot to say that lol and what brand aftermarket bov is cheaper but really good quality? And I might leave it wingless but I just wanted to know how hard it would be to put on lol
There are a lot of threads like this and people might bash you for asking without searching. Don't worry about them....there are plenty that will help you out! Can't wait to see the evo

From what I can tell I have to drill the holes. And I am new, hopefully everyone will cut me some slack. I cant find anyone VIA the search how has done the whole drilling themselves on a cf trunk.. any help? Lol
I'll sell you my wing. $50 and you pay shipping/materials.
BTW, there is a sticky in this same sub forum. Modding your car for newb, and another one on how to mod your car $100 at a time I believe.
Oh and welcome

1. Welcome.
2. I HIGHLY suggest leaving your vehicle as stock as possible for the time being.
This way, you'll be able to learn what YOU want to do to the car, and might even understand how potent a stock Evo is with the right driver.
As far as drilling a CF trunk yourself, I'd leave that to a professional. It isn't that it's difficult to do, it's that you seem to be relatively "green" in terms of car stuff. Drilling into a trunk to affix a wing that will see significant aerodynamic forces could go horribly wrong if you don't handle it correctly.
I would also HIGHLY recommend that you read through the "mods you regret" sticky at the top of this forum. You'll find many other people like yourself, who ended up wasting their money on parts that sadly made their vehicle worse.
As far as mods go, things to CONSIDER when you're ready would be...
1. Exhaust (which you have)
2. A filter.
3. A lower intercooler pipe, and possibly an upper intercooler pipe.
4. An Evo IX STOCK BOV.
5. A TUNE!
These cars gain SO MUCH from just a GOOD tune.
I might also suggest looking at putting the suspension back to stock, or having it professionally tuned as well.
Bottom line... relax, don't be eager to modify your car. It's VERY good from the factory. Do your research, come up with a plan, and work towards it.
What do you plan on using the car for btw?

Well then! Thank you guys for being welcoming, and what shape is the wing in? Is it the tb sides too? I will look at that thread, and as for mods. I will try my best to understand everything I'm doing. Why should I get the intercooler piping? I see it a lot but is it because it expands? And my plans for it is to be my dd back and forth to medical school and my work. Lol
Also!
Does anyone know if the turbo back Buschur racing 3 inch would pass Ohio e check?! :/ please advise! Lol

I wouldn't drill into that new trunk but thats just my op. Those head studs are the number one recommended from what i can tell my soon to be tuner wants to put them in my car. As for intercoolers stay away from BR unless you are going to by there licp. I'm not saying there stuff is bad, just that there stuff only works with there stuff lol.
ARP is one of the best, the apexi are debatable, some like it some dont. depends on what your doing.
keep it wingless for now, dont worry too much about mods, enjoy it first.
first mod i would do is get the evo9 diverter valve to replace your plastic one.
as for emissions, it depends on your states emissions testing. is it obd2 check? visual check? sniffer? do you have a cat? is the car any more modded ie tuned, running higher boost, rich?
dont tell me the answer, im just telling you the question u need to know about your car and state's emissions.

As a DD, trust me. Drive it as is for a while and you'll begin to understand what you want. There are HUNDREDS of people on here who were using it as a DD and modded and modded, and ultimately ended up hating the car because it was so silly to drive on the street.
As for the pipes, the intercooler piping is relatively restrictive. But the stock stuff is great for the time being. It makes no sense to mod them right away if you plan on getting a different intercooler, or other things.
Come up with a mod plan after you've driven the car for a while. I'd even suggest going to do some autoX events. Some modifications that are well meaning, can get you bumped out of a class that you can be VERY competitive in. Not to mention, probably learn what your car is REALLY capable of.
And honestly... if you're in REAL med school, you should pay the car off as SOON AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN, because your loans will be no joke.

I will drive it around and not touch a thing for now then, and read up on some threads, but I think if I run it through the E-check I should be fine, it has a cat and we run obd-II scans so I should be fine according to some of the other guys I asked.
Not to sound like some spoiled ***** but my parents paid half the car and I paid the other half in cash and bought it from the guy, so I own it in full and I know, my bills are looking crazy. I mean... crazy...
And as for my county, I'm in one that does it. (Medina) lol sucks for me right?

Have you considered autoX, or any NASA events?
The reason I made the doc comment is because one of my good friends is a neurophys, and my gf is a DPT. His loans are north of a quarter mil, and hers are well into the 6 figures. I'm a pilot, and mine are 6 figures also... so if you handle your money right, you'll be fine.
I just hate seeing some people buy into these cars, and have the bank take them out from under them.
