While I have my exhaust manifold off while changing pistons I want to clean up the crappy rusty oem manifold (ported at least) look. I'm not going to spend over $100 for a jet-hot or some kind of professional coating when I want to get a tubular manifold in the future. Is there any store paints or old hot rod tricks to coat the manifold with? I've seen bunch of older V8's with headers that were white, I was told you rub it with ATF and run it?? Never knew if it was true but I've heard it on one occasion, not that I would want a white manifold but looking for some kind of DIY coating....any ideas?? Would store bought paint hold up?

 

VHT header paint, just make sure you cure it properly.

 

Paint will flake off. Get it ceramic coated. Might as well go for form & function at the same time.

 

Tech Line Coatings makes a product called Turbo X. I coated my manifold, turbine housing and O2 housing with it a few years ago. It still looks good and hasn't flaked or peeled at all.
