Hahaha....well if it'll make you feel better...i did save up for the Evo knowing that it was going to hit our shores soon...even over a year before it arrived i had about 20 grand saved up plus sold my 2002 Jetta GLX VR6...so that's how i was able to raise the money for the STi . Anyways....anybody know how much exactly i can get for the STi if i sold it privately? Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds.com don't have the STi listed...i guess the car is real new. the average price that private sellers/dealers are selling the car is anywhere btw 28,000 and 29,500 for 7600 miles for a 2004 STi. Any input is gladly welcomed. thanks, Ghost

I was wondering....bc i know that the STi clutch and tranny is alot beefier...what have you guys done to your EVo's to remedy this problem? aftermarket clutches? i also hear there are many who are grinding in different gears...which somewhat worries me....i experienced somehting similar with my previous car, Jetta VR6. are there any solutions for such issues?
thanks, Ghost

Just for a point of reference, if you hunt during this winter you can buy a Sti for $28,600 new. So I would say 27,000.

Not true. There is a thread that shows the Sti and Evo clutch posted by someone from ACT. He talks about how good the stock clutch actually is. If you are making big power you'd need a new beefier clutch in either car anyway (Sti or Evo). There is nothing wrong with the Evo tranny. There are a bunch of 400+hp Evos running the stock transmission with no issues. It is actually pretty beefy with double and triple synchros and semi-straight cut gears 1-2.

IMHO you would be lucky to get $27,000 for a used STI. Trust me.

What the **** did your friend do to that car? Did he run doughnuts in the parking lot while redlining the ****?? If you are overly abusive to either of these cars they will fall apart as will anything. I think your friend will **** up his evo as well. Jeez.

Seriously, that is the first instance i've ever heard of anyone doing that to an STi. 7600 miles of spirited driving and no problems whatsoever.

damn, that's so sad to hear...

lol, but anyway - has anyone heard about the limited edition sti being released in spring? its called the STi - WR1 Special Edition. it's being released to celebrate Petter Solberg's 2003 WRC driver's title win. there's going to be limited production of 500 units and it comes in a new "ice blue metallic" paint as well as with fog lights, instead of the sti covers...among other upgrades. i'm not sure about u.s. availability at all, but i heard about it today from a friend who's getting an sti soon...heres the link for anyone interested

good thing for subaru that mitsubishi wasn't a part of the 2003 WRC or petter might not have won...heh

Thumbs up Why trade a STI for a EVO or a EVO for an STI?

Ok here is the low down. I have a 03 EVO with 3” turbo back, HKS BOV, MBC, K&N Filter + a few other goodies and my good buddy has a STI with 3” Turbo back, Apexi fuel and boost controllers, upgraded BOV + a few other toys. He has about 8K on his car and he just got the turbo ported and polished last week. The shop had to replace the compressor wheel and turbine wheel because they looked like a 90 year old rednecks teeth! The inside of the turbo was also scratched and gauged but nothing porting and polishing didn’t fix. Some how some thing had got it that turbo and ripped it new one so if you have an STI you might want to take a day to unbolt your turbo and make sure it’s not Swiss cheese . As for performance his STI owns my EVO but only after his recent turbo upgrades and proper fuel tuning which I don’t have yet only a MBC. When I say own I don’t mean he jumps me from the line but his STI pulls on me all the way through the gears once that turbo spools up. Of course he has spent a lot more $ on his car so far then I have . When I drove his STI the first thing I noticed was how the ride feels. It is soft and kind of like a boat compared to the EVO but it handles well in the corners regardless, the back end is a little easier to break loose. The turbo lag on his stock STI turbo was not bad but with the upgrade he just got it is sick compared to my EVO’s stock turbo all the way to about 3800 RPMS but when it kicks in watch out you can see the front of his car dip down when it kicks up!!! So after driving both cars I am very glad I got an EVO but I am also sure I wouldn’t have been disappointed with an STI. When my friend first got his STI and I showed up in my EVO a week later I could tell he was a little jealous and unsure if he made the right choice but after we both started moding our cars and let each other test them we both came to the same conclusion. They are both bad *** rides and you really cant go wrong.

I have driven both, both are great cars, but the evo was a better choice for me. The Sti has the power but the evo can outhandle it any day.

Gah...it's times like these that tear you apart.

I think i'll just wait for the Evo MR and the Counter by Subaru.

Then i'll make a choice
