evo 2-3
Cool guys thanks for the info. i know of the Galant vr4 and everythig about the ist gen dsms and have a couple budies who actually have turbo hatchbacks(one with a colt gt and the other a mirage) that had the 1.6t (4G61) and they have both swapped int he 2.0(4G63). Nice sleepers.
here's a few pics of my buddies EVO3 daily driven, registered and insured as an EVO3 in CALIFORNIA!
anyway he's the owner of www.driftspeed.com this is a true 100% real JDM RHD EVO3 GSR Gravel spec which means it was equipped with heavy duty gravel tires, mud guards and cool dealer optional/installed parts...this picture was taken at 10/18/03 SCLC meet at RRM.
you'd be surprised how many of us here in Cali have evo's now...ranging from e3-5's.

You may be able to insure an register the car, but it will still never be street legal according to federal nhtsa guidelines. Meaning if someone ever decides to bust your ***** you'll have a very expensive steel cube on your hands. And that's assuming they let you keep the cube after they crush it.
well yah he's got a dealers license plate on the car now...i know that still doesn't insure him 100% safety but it will most likely keep the local authority off his back.
oh and the evo2 and 3 were the best evo's built closest to 50/50 weight distribution ratio...but i still take the 3 over any of the others!

The car does certainly look cool!
But, lets see a copy of his registration.... ;P or a pic of his VIN badge under the hood.
I'm willing to bet that it doesn't say Lancer Evolution on the reg/title....I'd bet that it likely says Mirage.
I'm told that the JDM VIN's have a different number of characters and a different number nomenclature. If he has the JDM VIN tag still in place, it can't get keyed in properly in the DMV computer since it should have a few more chars than a US VIN.
Or is it registered as a kit car?
SC~

not sure last i looked under the hood all the VINs were JDM he did show me a book filled with all the legal documents in his glove compartment im sure theres something there.
i've been researching the possibility of making an evo 3 from US cars. buy a 93 mirage sedan, buy a 92-93 Mitsubishi Expo LRV AWD 2.4 with manual transmission. buy a 2g eclipse turbo 4g63 engine(1g engines have a different mount).
the LRV is based on the mirage sedan platform but it has awd, so you put the LRV AWD drivetrain in the mirage, then add the turbo 4g63, voila, US street legal Evo 3. Right now I'm concerned about the Lobro Driveshaft joint mount. It doesn't look like it is a bolt out, and I bet mirage's don't have have that mount built in, but if you want an evo 3 this is probably easier and cheaper than importing one. does anyone know if the mirage has the lobro joint mount?

i have a buddy here in cali thats in the process of doing an Evo3 conversion with a 94 Mirage sedan. Instead he/we are using a 1st gen 4g63t eclipse engine and we are also using the eclipses AWD tranny. the tranny all mounts up but refabricating the rear section of the car is necessary. The rear section of the car does not allow an AWD drive shaft to run straight through so relocation of the gas tank and misc items will be required. alot of cut and welding is needed...at this moment we are only going to setup up the car as a FWD 4g63t since this vehicle is his only form of transportation at the moment...but as soon as summer comes around the car is going into the garage and getting torn apart.
also we've already looked at the Mitsu Expo's tranny and drive shaft although it will worked the same but the drive shaft on the Expo's are skinny or should i say weak...i doubt that the shaft will be able to handle all that power from the 4g63t especially if you are planning to be driving the car hard.
anyway if you are really interested in doing such a conversion...

i came from this forum i used to own 2 mirages before these guys are all about performance and have looked at just about every possible way they can to make the mirage a quick sleeper especially motor conversions. anyway...hit them up if you have questions and please dont be a n0ob there they dont take kindly of them on the board since they get 100 "mirage to evo conversion" questions a day so please read up they have stickies there in regards to the conversion and i believe there is also a mod. here that compiled his own data on conversions/swaps as well.
good luck.
here's an image of my friends car we just installed a ton of stuff onto the car...majority of the stuff was internal stuff biggest thing we installed was that kit....which surprisingly fits with all the supports on.

I think the Evo II's looks better because the front bumper is not aggresive at...
On the Evo III the front bumper has some agressivness to it on the out side openings and doesn't look as smooth as the EVO II...
EVO II

EVO III
btw... J's Garage has a EVO III for sale...
