evo 2-3
Anyway to import an EVO II or III and just get it insured and registered street legal as a mirage?![what DoT guy would know the difference, and we understand the risks of it not being the safest crash test wise].... I've been reading, really want an EVO II now, but i could never get a DSM, and mirage and manage to put it all together.
you'd still need a Mirage because in order for you to register a car in the US you are required to have US specified VIN numbers so the mirage would be your VIN number donor and you would also need to find a shop that is willing to do an illegal process of swapping VINs from the Mirage to the Evo2 or 3. [Which will be a rare thing to find here in the US]

There for when you register the car you'll be registering it as a 93-96 Mirage and just claim that you have modified the car with aftermarket/performance enhancing products.

evo2 and 3 came LHD not sure for the UK but in the Philippines im for certain we had evo3's there in LHD format they were imported not sure from where exactly...even if the car was RHD you can still use the Mirages LHD steering column to convert your evo3 RHD to LHD... [edit]

All UK cars are RHD, like Japan or Hong Kong cars....
BTW, if you use the US Mirage LHD steering rack, it will not be as responsive as the really LHD EVO steering since they are two very different cars....
You might be able to source a LHD EVO in some other European countries like Germany, Italy or Swissland...
Good Luck

all they would need to do is pop the hood...see a big *** modified 2.0 Turbo motor in a small *** car and look under the car and see an AWD drift shaft...that would really give it away. just the fact that the car has a turbo and exhaust is enough for them to take your car in.

true..its a quick fix for a LHD conversion but you can easily get a custom beefed up steering rack/column at a machine shop.

I love the two grooves in the front intake. Could do without the fog lamps though. The lines are sleek and tight against the body. With V and VI, it just gets too wide.

yeah the loook damn good..they are inspired in the chassis style of the Lancer Glxi i own...
here's another quick fix...if you guys are really willing to spend that much cash on making street legal evo's than i would suggest hitting up a RALLY shop most those shops do conversions you can try and pursuade them to make you a street spec LHD evo but it will be up to you to find a company that will insure the car and get it registered.
but in reality the amount the shops will charge you to convert a mirage into an evo3 would cost just a slight bit more than doing it yourself...and you can be sure that the guys building the car is legit and is up to or beyond EVO spec since they prep the cars for rally racing.

is one shop that is located out here in Santa Clarita, CA
another shop which i had sent my project evo5 mirage too a long time ago was
http://www.TADmotorsports.com
but for some reason their site is down right now they are located just outside Chicago...

yep, RRE/RRM builds rally cars...duh...im sure most of you guys knew that right?...?....anyway they are a little more strict in making street spec evo's.

besides the one on the dash. And I know that they could inpound your car if they suspect something. But for exhaust I don't think they would do that just for exhaust. although I know they could.

The rear section of the car does not allow an AWD drive shaft to run straight through so relocation of the gas tank and misc items will be required. alot of cut and welding is needed...
also we've already looked at the Mitsu Expo's tranny and drive shaft although it will worked the same but the drive shaft on the Expo's are skinny or should i say weak...i doubt that the shaft will be able to handle all that power from the 4g63t especially if you are planning to be driving the car hard.

Do you know if the gas tank from an AWD LRV, the rear differential crossmember, and all the running gear won't physically fit in a sedan mirage? Or no machining done to the mirage body to accept those parts? I understand the mirage coupe's are a different wheelbase but I was hoping the sedan would be do-able.
About the driveshaft, there are 1.8 AWD Expo LRV's, maybe thats why the driveshaft you found was so small. The driveshaft in my 2.4 AWD LRV is the same diameter as the driveshaft in my 400 hp 67 Camaro, I believe it would withstand a lot of abuse especially since it will only see a percentage of the horsepower.
Screw it, its a ****ing pipe-dream, I get my evo8 back from the shop next week anyway.
