CF Vortex Generator Broke!

Hey everyone,

So, I purchased a CF Vortex Generator from Rexpeed about 2 months ago - installed it the same day. I did a meticulous job installing this piece in an effort to ensure that I would not have to mess with it ever again. I cleaned the area twice with 90% alcohol and let it dry, yada yada, all that good stuff. However, against my better judgement, I used the supplied double-sided adhesive tape, rather than using some of my own 3M...

Well it seemed to fit and hold just fine. I drove the car from Michigan to Houston and back for TX2K12 and it was all good. The car saw quite bit of high speed driving that trip and the VG held just great (I checked it every once and a while).

So today I took the car out for a spin and jumped on the highway. As soon as I got up to ~80mph, I heard a SNAP-FLAP-WOOSH type of noise. Pulled over and half of it was gone

So I have sent Rexpeed an email regarding this issue, and was told by AMS that the Rexpeed guys would probably be interested in this, and would likely help me out. I just wanted to post this up for you guys to see.... I am still confused as to how this happened at normal highway speeds.

Looked like one half of the double sided tape was stronger than the other...

Good thing I have my own 3M for when I install my Bay Speed Aero CF VG. Hope the quality is decent.

Ive had nothing but the antenna holding my PU VG on. Survived 80mph for several months. That's just weird.

(previous owner installed it with a hot glue gun. wtf?. I was wondering what that vibration was at certain speeds)

No... Like I stated, I was going around 80mph...

The car has seen 150+ speeds (it was a long 1500 miles to Houston lol) without any issues..

I dunno...?

The same thing happened to me while I was going about 120-130. Except mine didn't break off the way yours did, the whole thing flew off. My friend found it on the highway the next day in three pieces lol.

Same thing happened to mine, not CF though, going 65 or under. The P.O. used some pretty shotty tape to put it on, so i blame him. replaced it, used some heavy duty 3m tape and it wont even budge now.

that sucks to see. do the rexpeed ones not have the ends that go under the weather stripping?

how much double sided tape did you use? when i got mine, i went out and bought some heavy duty 3m tape (expensive) and followed the procedure and i basically put a GRIP of tape on there. front, back and middle. so a good 3 strips worth. i cant tell from the pic but it looks like the supplied tape is very thin??
