Off to the dealership tonight...any sugg?
Well I've been lurking around here for about 2 weeks now...and I must say, I feel a whole lot more informed about this car than when I first came in here! Thanks everyone!
I'm going to stop by the dealership tonight and check out a slightly used Silver Evo VIII as well as a couple new ones. Just going to see what sort of deal they can give me. My biggest hurdle is getting enough $$ out of my 2k2 Max SE.
Is there anything I should know before I go? Any last hints or suggestions? I don't plan on walking out of there with the car tonight, but you never know. My last 4 cars were purchased when I really didn't plan on purchasing them...sometimes they just throw crazy deals at you.
Thanks again for all the info you all have given me! If not tonight, sometime soon I'll have one of these great cars!

Yeah, kinda how I feel right now. I'm not really ready to buy, I just want to go sit in it....see what's up. Is it ever the perfect time?
I'm ordering headers for my car on Monday if this doesn't happen tonight (95% it won't...but who knows)

Know exactlly what your trade in allowance should be on your car in Excelent condition from kellys blue book www.kbb.com before you walk in the door. Know exactly what the EVO MSRP is on the one you want. Now if they offer to sell at $1000 under MSRP sounds like a good deal right? But if they are offering you $2,000 less than your trade in is worth they are trying to screw you....even though you are getting the car for less than MSRP.
Now, if they offer you the car for $1000 over MSRP and offer you $2000 MORE than your trade in is worth, they are trying to work a deal with you. Even though you can't brag to your friends about getting the car for under MSRP you still come out ahead.
You NEED to know the numbers before you walk in the door so you will know the difference between someone screwing you and someone working a deal for you.

You're not going to get your money back from headers. You'd be better off adding the header money to the downpayment to get the Evo or subtracting it from what you expect to get on your trade. Either way it will do more to get you into your Evo. Good luck.
$28,800 for an EVO with the high wing and spoiler..(invoice before holdback basically) This is for a NEW one..
$12,500-13,000 or more for the Maxima on trade..(need to know more on your car but this would be for an Auto, 30,000 mile car with no leather here in the Midwest..)
=
$15,300-15,800 trade difference plus tax, title and license.
If you want to go used, figure about $2-3,000 less...
My suggestion is to go new because the used one may not save you as much as you think..if thats the case just step up to the new one..
Good luck and you know what? You only live once and if the EVO is at it's best pricing right now, and your trade is low in miles, what's a few thousand off on the numbers if you are figuring incorrectly on your end..(trade, selling price, etc.)
Just BUY one....you gotta get one sooner or later..We are all tired of you lurking around here in your MAXIMA..

its always good to start negotiations on the Evo and do not even mention a TRADE. After they give ya a number for the Evo bring in the trade issues so they dont try to low ball you with the numbers. Some dealerships even offer more discounts if you belong to a priceclub (My parents are Sam's Club members) So i got even more money off my car. (may not apply to the Evo) But the most important thing you can do is not be afraid to walk away. Good luck.
Take your car to CarMax and see what they offer. It will probably be more than the dealer can do on trade. Before you choose which way to go be sure to calculate any tax advantage on the trade to get apples/apples numbers.
Don't go in expecting you're going to negotiate the Evo down toward wholesale and then turn around and negotiate your trade up around retail though. Be realistic and figure that you can go retail/retail or wholesale/wholesale if you are at the right dealer.
Good luck.

They're asking 7k OVER MSRP. Nice eh? They're all sunroof/wing models...looks like the price is 30,8-- something like that...and then with the markup it's 37k+.
Bottom line: They won't offer jack for my car (so I have to go sell it on my own ...big suprise) and they're asking way to much for what they have. Well, they have my info so if the car is still sitting there in 6 months, I'll go back!
I didn't get a chance to haggle, but they were looking at 13k down (1/3 the price) and 1050 a month payments.
"How much can you put down?" mmm..about 3500...
"So then another 8 thousand in 2 weeks?" ummmm...no.
Looks like I best sell my car first, save some $$ and go to a different dealership!
