EVO 8 Recall help!

I'll start off by introducing myself since his is my first post.

My name is Jay and I'm from Canada. I drive a 1993 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution I.

I'm looking into buying an EVO 8 from the States. I've found a few that had what I'm looking for, but the only issue has been recalls.

One of the cars in particular had an outstanding recall which turned out to be the certification label. In order for me to be able to bring the car over to Canada, the recalls have to be done and the dealership needs to supply a letter stating the recalls have been performed.

Soo, I contacted a local US dealership to see what the time frame is for obtaining the sticker. They were very short with me, and didn't really offer much help. They told me they are on national back order and could be up to two months before they get it there.

My question is, is there a way to speed up this process or am I stuck waiting for two months?

Help me buy my first EVO 8!

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone chime in with how long they had to wait?

I couldn't tell you, that's the only recall that hasn't been done on mine, and I've just never bothered. I'd assume that's the case with most of them, save for the Cali cars.

In order for me to be able to bring the car over the border to Canada, all the recalls have to be done and a letter from the dealership has to be issued stating the recalls have been done.

I'm just trying to get an idea of how long I'm looking at, or if I'm screwed!

why not talk to the owner of who you are buying the car from to see if he has any proof of the racalls done? Or have him/her check with his local dealer to see how fast it can be done , i think that would be the fastest time for you.. good looking car by the way

The label is an orange 2 x 3 inch thing that means nothing. So, go to the dealership and show the service manager some money in exchange for lying about the label. All you need is the letter.

Unfortunately I need to have the recalls done in order to bring the care into Canada.

I spoke to Mitsubishi (called the 1-888 number). They told me that the owner has to take it to a dealership and open the recall claim.

I called the closest dealership and they told me that it'll be a month or two before they can get the sticker since it's on "national backorder". I don't know if he's trying to screw with me, or whether everyone with an 03 is finally coming out of the woodwork to get it done.

I know there is an open recall because I ran the VIN at work and it came back with one outstanding recall.

Do you guys think if I talk to Mitsubishi they'll look the other way and give me the clearance letter because the recall isn't safety related? Fat chance, but maybe worth a shot?

the only recalls or Technical service bulletins, I recall were something on the 05 evo 8s and the 06 evo 9s with pertaining to the water pump, which was fixed from by the dealership free of charge because it was a service bulletin.

if any members on here with the older models 03 and 04 can chime in, let us know if their were any recalls or TSBs. im curious myself now....

I know of 3 recalls for the EVO 8's, one being the certification label which affected 7500+ EVO 8's.

This particular recall is still outstanding on the car I'm looking to purchase.
