That's considered an act of God. Same with hail storms and stuff like that. The damage on the OP's car is from not washing the car.

Ok so I bought 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper and rubbing/polishing compound. I'm going to wet sand and buff tomorrow and I'll put new pics up of how it came out. I'm also doing my faded to hell brake calipers and I might hit my rims with new paint as well. Keep in mind I've NEVER done any kind of real detail work before but I have faith it'll come out good. I can paint and I've wet sanded other things before, just not the clear coat on a car.

Someone asked how the lights got cracks, I used a Mothers light restore kit on them about a month ago and have since developed stress cracks and spots.

Also there were times that I couldn't simply go out and wash my car, didn't always have a garage and I did have to drive this in a couple winters which all lead up to the finish looking this bad. Now that I'm financially stable, it's time to fix and restore things back to new.

Oh my dear christ! You're going to wetsand and buff your car and you've never done it on a vehicle before? Perhaps you should practice on a car you really don't care about and just pay someone a body shop to do it for you. Seriously, the amount of dumb threads you post on here and on the local WNY forums has me seriously questioning how you haven't completely ruined this car or killed yourself in it yet. Do yourself a favor and stop going to innovative for your work too, with their overinflated "2012" dyno settings. I'm sure they've soaked you hard for some cash already.

+ eleventy billion for thread of the year BTW

^Thanks buddy. With the amount of negative coments you leave I don't know how someone hasen't killed you yet. Mike does a good tune, Innovative in general does good work. You don't have to suck off STM you know. It's like follow the leader around here. I don't care that Street Tuned is in Rochester, totally respect them and the work they do but I like doing business here in Buffalo. I've gotten nothing but good honest work from them and people like you don't change that. I drive my car every single day and I've been on Mike's tune for almost a year now and couldn't be happier. My posts on a forum don't have a damn thing to do with the way I drive. 05OrangeSS you should definitely stop talking all of your S**T and come out to a solo run to see how you do. Then, IF you do decent you can start running that hole of yours again.

Geico was finding reasons to not cover me when I got rear ended last year, and yes I had FULL coverage; So good luck getting them to pay for something like this. Especially when it's wear and tear..

Best thing you should do before/if something bad happens is change your insurance company.

Yeah I've already made a claim for the sandstorms. I pay my 250 deductible. My whole car gets repainted. Even though yes there is some nicks from normal wear and tear.

Seems like you missed his point in its entirety:

When it comes to paint, the rule of thumb is to try the least intrusive method first and go from there. You're starting with the most intrusive method imaginable, while having absolutely no idea how to actually do this. Will you be trying to claim the damage on your insurance, as well?

Again, it's because you have no idea what you're doing. You overworked the plastic, caused excess heat and damaged the headlight. This process is a baby step compared to wetsanding the entire car and expecting favorable results.

Below is a link to Autopia's tutorial dump. I'd strongly suggest familiarizing yourself with the polishing process - this will take a week or two - before trying to work a compound or whatever other abrasive you bought for your car. It's an applied pursuit, not theoretical, so you have to find a panel to practice on. Good luck:

I agree with FJF entirely here. Patrick, like everyone has said, wear and tear isn't covered by your insurance. Don't try to claim it because no one here wants you to go to jail for insurance fraud. If you're gonna try to tackle the detailing yourself please watch videos, read, read and read some more so you don't mess up the paint anymore than it already is. FJF is very knowledgeable and is an avid detailer of his own cars. Inquire if you can Pm him to get some tips or something. GL

Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah. Woah.

Woah.

...Woah.

This is not my batman glass.

You're asking if your insurance will cover wear & tear? While you're at it, ask if they will replace your clutch, recondition your gearbox and rebuild your motor and turbo.

Let me know how you get on with that.

Actually I have 4 years left on my Route 66 warranty for that

FJF I was actually really gentle and took my time, I even used a little bit of soap to add a layer of protection and they still cracked.

Please just do your car a favor and do what everyone suggested you do, take it to a reputable detail shop and have them do it. It will be well worth the money
