I turn key, and NOTHING ...

Hi guys, ever since i purchased my car about 9 months ago, my car has this weird thing where i have to turn the key a couple times to even get it to start.

As of now, 9 months later, my car takes 5-50 (Not an exaggeration) turns to start... ITS HORRIBLE, hot day's and im sitting there raging my ignition make me literally depressed.

My car has no problems besides this, no battery/alternator problems. It's all in the key/ignition thing?

Is this a common problem? I tried searching but didn't know exactly what i was searching for.

Check your positive/ground cable to your starer for corrosion and makes sure connections are not loose, bench test your starter thats a good starting point.

On the turns where nothing happens are there lights on dash/radio turn on? Is there a blinking green on the dash when you turn and nothing happens?

Are you sure it isn't the starter? My car does the same thing but I know it's my starter. Sometimes the drive gear on the starter doesn't engage thus not being able to spin the flywheel. I had to gear up my drive gear a couple of times until I got fed up with it and bought another starter. lol

Let me get more into detail, ALL the lights turn on. Basically picture everything that should happen except the starter turning over/cranking. Radio ect, ect all work . the fuel pump IS priming.

where is the starter located so i can give it a check ?

EDIT: and the car will eventually start ... its just a matter of turns/time . Sometimes its within a few turns, sometimes it takes forever. I couldn't imagine if i were to stall somewhere while on a main road haha.

I'd pull the little wire that goes to the starter and meter it to see of power is there when the ignition is turned to start. If yes, then clean the bayonet connection and make sure it is a tight fit.

It could be your ignition switch or starter.

This was the EXACT same issue I had with a car at work. It wasn't an Evo, but an 2005 Lancer ES. it would help at first if you pulled up on the key while you turned it. I thought something must be loose so I took the covers off the steering wheel covers off an tried starting it while I played around with some wires. I found a connector, on the bottom left side of the steering column (I think.. This was about 6 months ago..)

Anyway, if I moved that connector up a little bit it started fine. So I ended up ziptie-ing it up closer to the steering column and we haven't had a problem since. Maybe that could be your problem too.
