Used GTR's are about that. Not ready to drop that kind of coin on a car yet.
I'm really starting to re-evaluate my position on this and scaling back might be the best thing for now.

That has some to do with it. Lately I've been feeling like its a chore to drive moreso then fun. Clutch is kinda hard to get used to (weird for me since I'm pretty good at driving stick and I still don't feel comfortable with this 8 leg Quarter master). It has some part boost throttle surging which I've been told is part Speed Density quirk part big turbo quirk. Its not bad but enough to be annoying for me. When I stab the pedal it def. all makes sense but I don't really do that all that much because I'm not trying to get a misdemeanor (In Raleigh anything over 15 is a misdemeanor). Too old to be getting speeding tickets all the time.
I love the way the car looks. I have a standing deal to swap seats for some MR's. I'm engaging Spec-Ops about assisting me in getting things a little saner and some of the ICE stuff I would like.

Honestly man it would suck to walk away from this thing after all the time and money you've put into it. I've done the same thing with other vehicles in the past and sometimes still regret it today. That's probably one of the reasons why I still have my Evo now.
Scale it back a bit and make it more daily driver friendly is my vote.

I'm sur eyou've already thought about this, but have you considered trade an option for a more stock evo? Reading stuff like this really makes me question my motive to build... But so far, I've managed to stay stock and not go over board... And hearing you describe what it's liek to drive.. sounds like a nightmare.
Scaling back is def the front running option.
I think my next car is going to be N/A for the track. Dealing with the freight train of power that comes on with a turbocharged car is iffy.
That's why I suggested E46 M3, but the IS-F is a nice option as well.

Dude you typed that all from a phone. Jesus. LOL.
I was being nice with regards to BMW reliability. I have a friend that is a tech with BMW, another thats an AVID BMW owner and another that works with a 3rd party warranty company and they all love Bimmers but they all said the same thing.....Get a E46 manual and stay away from the SMG.
I'm def. leaning more towards the scale back the power on the car and make it not so extreme route.

Personally I think you are leaning towards the best route, like you said your car is running great.. why take the chance in picking up a car that is not nearly as good shape... hard to find people that take care of cars like true enthusiasts...
LOL. I agree, they can have many, many issues. I have had the "power limiter" light come on once before and Im pretty sure my first one had the wastegate rattle.
I just love the car so much though. Its the prefect balance of power, handling, technology, comfort and luxury. Also the fact that you can make a good amount of power easily is appealing. Plus, the RWD & 50/50 chassis is very fun.
Funny thing is Im pretty sure Ill end up back in a Japanese car sooner or later though. Either Ill get scared and worried and sell it n go back to Japanese cars or it will break, Ill be unhappy and then go back to Japanese cars. Always kinda liked the IS350....

You are right it is a perfectly balanced vehicle both 335XI and 335I. Handling is phenomenal and comfort is very pleasent. It is a luxury sports car and lives up to its title in that aspect.
Doesn't happen to everything, even the nicest 300ZXs and 3000GTs don't command huge coin. But the CT9A Evos and gator/hawkeye STis seem to maintain value nicely.
Glad to hear you're likely keeping her, Smurf.
I'll join the other folks that recommend keeping the Evo and tuning her back a bit. It sounds like you really love the car, but you got carried away and took her in a direction that hasn't made you happy. You have big peak numbers, but you have lost drivability, spool, and comfort. There will always be a point when modding a car that you can take things too far and then your only options are to ditch the car and start over or scale things back. Nothing wrong with having a motor built for 1000 hp and running half that. You won't worry when you hit boost, and with a moderate sized turbo (BBK-BB/Red-BB) you will still have plenty of spool and power to keep things fun.
I think you will re-discover your joy in the car if you make a few tweaks towards the areas that you are missing right now. You are missing a bit of comfort? Put some nice Recaro's in there, you are missing spool, drop the turbo size a bit. 700 whp is virtually unusable on the street anyway unless you are street racing. Honestly you might find that you spend a lot more time enjoying the car with a smaller turbo as you can actually hit boost without going into outer space.
If the car is too loud, maybe swap exhausts or cat the car (if it doesn't have one). You have a huge investment in one of the arguably best automotive platforms EVER MADE, and you still have a great chance to salvage it. Best of luck whatever you decide!
