AC problem on evo 9
AC problem on evo 9
hey guys i have a problem with the ac on my car, sometimes when i turn on the ac it works, and sometimes when i turn it on it dont work?! the ac compressor doesn't engaged. i dont know whats causing this, i have no idea. any advice on this? btw it is full with freon.
There is a HUGE thread on this, on this site. It's the compressor clutch. If you measure the air gap of the compressor clutch, and it's more than .025" then you can buy a shim kit from mitsubishi for like $7, re-shim the clutch and it will all be good... job typically takes less than 30 minutes without special tools.
Just do a search for AC problems or the like... it pulled it up on a google search when I had the problem.
Mine however was so worn that I pulled the shims out entirely to make it work till I can replace the clutch entirely

Full mean it at the correct level or full meaning you just charged it with out gauges, you may have a bad relay for your a/c compressore, clutch to the compressore can be going bad. Is the fan on when the a/c on many things you might want to have a good shop take a look at the car before you just start changing parts.

I lied r12 is referred to as freon I believe. But it was no longer used because of ozone issues. But no new cars have freon. Most old cars are retrofitted to run 134a if they have issues now a days.
I used a gauge and it said that it was full, also the fans do come on when ever I turn the AC on. Plz advise.

Sounds like the compressor could be bad it the compressor engaging? You should hear a draw on the engine with a click type sound when it kicks on and also the pulley as well. Other possibilities could be a clogged condenser or orifice tube. I have filled cars up "correct" on a cheap gauge before to no avail only to overfill them according to that cheap gauge and get ice cold air. The clutch in the compressor could also not be working properly.
