Cams help??d

When I pulled off the timing belt I did not have everything at top dead center. So I turned the cams manually and did not remember which way I rotated each cam. I left the crankshaft at the position where I took off the timing belt...

What are my options to get the timing and sync of the cams correct with the crankshaft?

Thanks for your help! This forum is very helpful and I appreciate everyone's support

you need to get the bottom end TDC, after that the cams only go in one way!! make sure the stud on the cam is pointing up and the cam gears are lined up with the timing marks on the valve cover. also the hole on the crankshaft pulley should be pointing to the right and the timing mark on the "T". this will only work if you still have tension on the timing belt, if you had any slack on the belt when you took the gears off i would definitley make sure all the pulleys are timed correctly by taking off the cover and doing it correctly.

My timing belt was removed so there is no tension on the timing belt. I guess a better question is, is it OK to rotate the cams individually and the crankshaft individually?

The timing marks on the cams were facing down before I turned them, I just do not remember which way I turned them or even if they were turned the same way.

Would it matter if I rotated the cams individually left or right to get back to TDC?

you need to worry about getting your bottom end to TDC, once you do that the dowels on the camshaft need to facing up when you put the cams gears on, make sure the cam gears are lined up on the valve cover. so yes to answer your question, you can move the cams as you please to get them aligned with the timing marks. but you need to make sure your pulleys on the bottom end as well as your balance shaft belts are timed correctly. i gaurentee they are out of wack since you dont have the belt on.

Honestly OP, I'd just rip the lower timing cover off and re-time the car. It's really not difficult, and will save you a future headache.

So the next step is to rotate the crankshaft left or right to get back to TDC.? Then I can install the timing belt?

the balance belt also needs to be timed with timing belt pulleys at TDC

never rotate the crankshaft counter clockwise!! only clockwise!! but you need to take off the lowe timing cover and start from up top with the cams/cam gears and work your way in a clockwise formation to time everything. DONT WORRY BRO, WE ALL STARTED SOMEWHERE!!

could you elaborate on this? whats the best way to accomplish this? I have not removed the balance belt yet.

I had the the timing belt/ balance belt replacement completed when I soon realized that the tensioner for the balance belt was rotated the wrong way. So the position blade got bent up by that tensioner and then scrapped up the position sensor. I replaced all the damaged parts... but when I took of the timing belt I did not have everything at TDC (partly cause of frustration). Thats when I rotated the cams individually to TDC and then I stopped there to start get help...

the problem I am having is when I rotated the cams to TDC, I don't know if I went clockwise or counter-clock wise....

i'm sorry bro, its hard for me to help you understand. if your head is timed with the timing marks on the valve cover, good. you need to take off the lower timing cover, but before you do this. turn the crankshaft clockwise till the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley are lined up with the "T" on the lower timing cover. after this you need to take off the lower timing cover. now place the belt on starting with cam gears and work you way clockwise lining up all the pulleys with their respective timing marks. you also need to do this with your balance belt before you work on the timing belt. i'm gona trying and find a evo site with pics
