evo 8 FMIC

searched all over the internet, and the search bar isnt giving me options to find my answer

going for 400hp in a couple months, I know what I need but I have a basic question. staying at 400hp until I pay the car off

what is the stock intercooler rated for max hp?

should I get an ebay intercooler ince Im at a lower level hp? Buschurs was around 600hp when he did is intercooler test vs ebay intercooler.

Or should I save $400-600 on an intercooler brand name "I like AMS but expensive"

Thanks once I get this figured out im making a thread for my car

Go with the ebay one if you don't want to blow a ton of cash, I used a cx racing IC on my race car and have data logs of my temps and they where better than I thought they would be. All the othere test I've seen really dont have any data I trust. I can look at my log and say that durring a 25min run on a 100 degree day my intake temps never broke 135. I will say that you will get a better product from One of the vendors here than ebay with out a dought, the ebay ones have poor quality control/fitment.

around 380whp is where the stock intercooler will max out at, after all these years of rocks and bugs sticking to it I would say it will be even less. Spend the money on a decent FMIC now so you do not have to buy another one in the future.

If your going to want more then 400hp later on may as well spend the money not and not have to buy a new fmic down the road later

The saying goes...
Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

I've used various eBay intercoolers and you really get what you pay for with this particular part. Go ets and forget it. Regardless of what the stock cooler is "rated for" I saw huge improvement over stock when I switched mine to a 3" ets.

yea I just dont have 500 + dollars to spend at the moment on an intercooler going to emt school, then paramedic, then fire academy. Trying to make ends meet but be happy with the car at the same time. To be honest I would go AMS right now my friend has one on his 9 and he is making 540 AWHP.

I know spend the money now but when I get settled with my career then I wont have to ask all these questions because I can buy and install it myself

The AMS unit doesn't perform any better than ETS, you just pay $250 more plus shipping.

ETS FMIC works great and is a good price. You could also look to find a used one in the for sale section or part out section.

The ets is great or find a used turbo xs (NOT the xs power, those are junk...) 3.5" for sale. They run around 300 used most times. Great core and fit ok.

You would not "Have To". However think about what an intercooler does. It cools the charge temps.

Now add in a better more efficient core that is able to cool that charge much better than the stocker. Cooler charge temps will allow for more boost and timing before seeing knock.

Allowing the car to make more power safely so why would you not tune it after upgrading the core
