Dual exhaust tip: Same power, less noise?

For my Evo 9, I'd like to upgrade the exhaust to get more power but I won't want obnoxious noise. I have no idea what got this in my head, but would a dual tip exhaust be quieter but result in a similar power gain to a full 3" (or I'm guess that's what the diameter would be) exhaust?

I know that the thinking is that a true dual exhaust would result in less power, but if it split into 2 tips near the end, would that result in what I want?

Dual exhaust just looks weird. There are plenty of options if you are looking to keep the noise level down. Those options would probably be cheaper and more beneficial than a dual exhaust.

Dual set up is just adding more weight to a car that has plenty to pass around. Look into high flow cats, o2 dumps (still loud but only when you want), Resonated test pipes, electronic cutouts etc...

I think you can look for different exahusts that make less noise, but I guess if you like the dual tip?

It would actually be interesting if someone did do it. Have two 2.25" pipes from the front pipe back. The exhaust would be able to sit higher in the tunnel giving more road clearance and the cross sectional area of two 2.25" pipes is slightly more than a 3" pipe which means it should flow better as well.

I would also say if you had it made out of aluminium it may be lighter than a standard SS exhaust as well.

Let him do what he wants to do... I've seen a dual exhaust tip on an evo before. Personally, I don't really like it. The evo looks best with the exhaust it already has.

If you want to try it out... go for it!

i think what everyone is picturing and thinkin here is a Dual exhaust set up. which would look ridiculous, but im pretty sure he means a dual tip muffler, i dont honestly see you getting anymore gains or less exhaust rumble from doing so.

im sure most of the good exhaust setups have a silencer option, or even a aftermarket silencer to install. that should take care of the noise level. continue to research, im sure there is numerous threads on here about a " more quiet" exhaust set up.

A muffler with a single 3" inlet that splits into dual 2.25" outlets should be quieter than one with a single 3" outlet.

Just for clarification, I'm thinking about something like the Evo X: (Except without the resonator, of course)

Thanks for the feedback so far. The RRE stealth sounds like a good choice as well.
