AMS TBE what are your thoughts?

ok so i have a 06 evo mr white with a jdm rear bumper. IMO i dont like the crooked exhaust out the side look. i understand its for less bends better flow etc, but i just dont like it. AMS performance is the only company i can really find that acompanies the jdm rear bumper in the sense they made a shorter exhaust. its just hard to find pictures of people that run this exhaust and even sound clips. this car is my dd i drive 100 miles every day 50 each way. i dont want the car to be stupid loud but than again my previous dd was a 04 lightning with long tubes etc. i am willing to deal with the noise level as long as im not to the point where the state police are going to be on my tail left and right. i have done a lot of reading about loudness etc and ive thought about getting the AMS TBE for the JDM bumper and possible throwing a resignator or so on it. let me know if any of you have pictures of your car with the AMS exhaust JDM bumper the only picture i can find is on their webiste and its not a good picture from underneath kinda looking for a pic striaght on from the back or from the top.

SORRY ITS LONG but i was trying to put all my thoughts!

Im not sure if my AMS TBE has the JDM option, I never asked the previous owner. Im guessing it does since it has the JDM bumper. Although now Im second guessing b/c my exhaust tip does extend beyond the bumper some on the side pic. So it may NOT have the JDM option. Here's some pics, not the best pics but it's what I have. Also for me, full TBE and cams, my car is very loud like a racecar. Too loud for me. I just bought a resonated test pipe since it had a straight test pipe before. I haven't had a chance to test out the resonated test pipe yet. BTW if you want to buy the straight test pipe, let me know

Have you looked into Buschur Racing exhaust systems? I am pretty sure you can get one of their exhaust systems (slip-fit or v-band, turbo back or not) that utilizes the SD rear section and that will fit nicely with the jdm bumper.

awesome pics, but not awesome news on the noise level, state boys up here are tough on the "import exhaust" if it looks after market they will yank you for it. buschur exhaust is nice not a huge fan of how far the muffler sits from the tip but thats probably something i can get over. i am new to the evo world as i can from my lightning, please fill me on the "SD" part? i will have to run a cat, we have these vans that sit right off on and off ramps and meter exhausts and if your exaust reads to high in carbon then it snaps a picture and sends you a ticket haha. its so stupid i loved driving by them with my 10 inch lifted 7.3 diesel with stacks and blowin black smoke cause theres nothing they can do sorry ok so my biggest thing is whats the quality like on the buschur exhaust and how loud is it etc? i dont want a exhaust thats super quite but again nothing thats CRAZY loud attention getter. i do a lot of highway driving to so have to keep that in mind! i aprreciate yalls help i look forward to modding my new baby!

wow sounds like the po po is strict up there. I'm sure there's quiet options and someone will chime in. I would see if a search brings something up too. I know for sti's they had a maddad whisper which was a quiet 3" exhaust but not sure about evos

i'm not trying to change your mind or anything, but here's what Greddy Carbon Ti (not Ti-C) sounds like with medium acceleration:

The AMS tbe is not extremely loud with a resonated test pipe they offer. When I tried it with the straight test pipe it was too loud for me.

oh ok blazinVIII that greddy is way to loud for me... well should i say for the state boys around here. My biggest thing about exhaust for these is the angle.. its soooo hard to find a exhaust that sits straight. thought about buying a muffler and having my buddy put together a full system untill MaLo EvoVIII recommend buschnur racing they have a nice looking exhaust and they accommodate the JDM rear bumper by making the exhaust shorter.

if you're looking for an exhaust that sits straight, then Greddy Ti FTW

here's what it sounds like with normal driving

I have an AMS TBE on my IX MR. I do not, however, have the JDM bumper on my car so I am not sure if there is much of a difference in the make. I have been pulled over 2 times (over a 1 year period) for the exhaust on the highway and let go both times without a ticket. The exhaust is not that obnoxious IMO but it definitely catches the attention of police here in Michigan. If you would like I can take some pics of it on my OEM bumper and maybe a video or something. Good luck!

The Greddy Ti doesn't exit straight, but the AMS is very close to being straight exit. From all the Evo's I have seen in person the Greddy looks terrible and doesn't fit good enough to my standards. Unfortunately the only way to actually get what you want is to go custom. AMS was the top of the list for me on almost straight exit exhausts. If you go with the AMS be sure to get the resonated test pipe, it mellows the tone down so much compared to the straight test pipe. You can actually carry on a conversation with the person in the backseat with it.

alright guys all great news i think my biggest hit will be the buschur racing exhaust, i HAVE to run a cat staties around here will get their mirrors out and make sure there is a cat under the car, i like the buschur exhaust because they exit straight, they accommodate the jdm bumper, and they dont look crazy aftermarket ie the big can right on the tip of the exhaust, i think if i paint the exhaust black minus the chrome tip it will still look stock, plus my buddy does custom metal engraving so i might have him engrave the mitusbishi emblem on the tip so it looks stock! SHHH dont tell anyone i dont wana be sued lol.
