New Evo

I wanted to ask a newbie question, I just picked up a new evo on wed. and wondered if anyone had any opinions on dumping the mobil1 for non-synth. for the first 1000 miles or so. I have never been a fan of synth. oil in new engines, and I have about 300 miles and started thinking I should get that stuff out of their. I was also thinking about a exhaust, turbo timer, air intake & boost control and wondered if I was on the right track?

Thanks for the input.

Rick

I have heard that Dumping the Syn for Real Oil in the first 1000 miles is good for engine break in. You are on the right track for performance too.. Just think fuel and Air when tuning this car. It is all it needs to make a gob of power!

Doesn't it say in our manual that we MUST use synthetic oil or you will void the warrenty?

I would find it hard to believe they could tell it was run with non-synth. but I will let it go and see what happens.

Thanks

It's actually really easy to check and see in an Turbo engine has not been running synth by looking at the impeller blade bearings. Peterson Cat used to do that on engines that had problems while under warranty. If you singed the extedned warranty that required the use of synth oil, Cat would check it out to see if you stayed with the synth if a problem ever occured.. This info is years old and goes back to when i used to work for Peterbilt.......

On a different note. My Evo put out a stock HP record on Shiv's dino with just under 1,100 mile on the odometer. Never even had it's first oil change.

The break in with dino oil is an Urban Legend that will prob be around when my kids grow up.

For what it's worth, stay with the Synth oil as to cover your *** in case of a warranty claim. It would suck if you had an engine problem that had nothing to do with lubrication denied because the reginal rep noticed that dino oil was used at one time. This is my opinion but it is based on facts, not " I heard" stories. Good luck and enjoy the Evo!!!

My $0.02

If you dump the syn. oil, and something happen to your engine.

Well you just voided your warranty as far as Mitsubishi is concerned.

Definitely a out for the manufacter

I think I said it before, this ain't no 327 Chevy built in Joe Bob's garage that has the tolerances of loose stool and the cylinder pressures of a tennis ball can. Run what says to run, don't be a fool.
