Another Exhaust decision thread.

I am looking to invest in a quality exhaust system. I am bent between getting the Buschur Racing V band Turboback Exhaust kit and a Tomei TI cat-back. With the Tomei I would eventually get the hi-flow cat and down pipe but that would have to wait due to the cost of the system.

I would like performance and drive ability to be my overall goal. I plan on using the car for a track day every once and awhile along with some autox events. But, predominately the evo is just my weekend street cruiser.

The v band system is nice because it gives me the most freedom between all out performance and drive-ability but, the Tomei system would cut down the overall weight on the car 20-30lbs. Opinions? Any quality issues I should be aware of?

If all you want is all out performance, look for the exhaust with the least amount of bends and sharp angles. I personally love my tanabe medallion touring but I primarily daily drive my car so I prefer a quieter tone.

You should have a look at a titanium Litespec exhaust, you could save yourself a fortune. My 9 is making almost 400hp with very little mods so I feel the exhaust flows pretty well and the construction is great, very neat welds and perfect fit, looks like it's worth three times as much. The sound is great, nice burble on idle and a manic throaty scream at wot. Weighs as much as a very light thing as well. Well worth a look.

Thanks for the tip, I will search around for it. I am fairly new to the Evo scene so I don't know too many options for parts out there besides the mainstream name brands.
I just purchased a tactrix kit and I am getting the edge to add some more power .

Check out the AMS turbo back with resonated test pipe. It is very deep is not make you deaf riding in the car and is my favorite exhaust out there. I have ran a few different exhausts in the past and stuck with the AMS

I'm also running the AMS turboback with resonated test pipe, and the sound is just where I want it to be.

i have a tanabe medallion touring with a mil spec hfc and i have to say i love it. it almost sounds stock and fitment is great. i can actually listen to my radio at low volumes and carry on a conversation while driving. i dare say its almost too quiet. i might ditch the hfc and run a straight pipe with the next set of mods im gonna do.

I have the Buschur Racing TBE and love it. Its very raw sounding and has a great tone. I get compliments all the time on the exhaust. With an ARC Box and the exhaust I am making 347 whp. The exhaust flows tremendously.

Exhaust is always a hard topic to discuss. Everyone is going to have their opinion. If you are able to ride or listen to someone's car that will help tremendously.
I chose the Tomei route after listening to this car.
I installed the full system and couldn't be happier with the results. I was worried it was going to be too loud with the Test pipe installed but it was perfect. I dynoed my stock IX( it had a high flow cat and a hks drop in) before and after and it picked up 45 whp on a dynojet. It needed to be tuned after that because it was hitting higher loads. Now with a few other things and a tune its making good power and drives well.

I am glad to hear that you picked up 45whp with those mods. I think i am going to go with the Litespec exhaust, a downpipe, and a HF cat. I am hoping the Litespec is about the same loudness as the Tomei if not quieter because of the resonator. My dd has a loud exhaust and after awhile it's a bit annoying.
