If anything. Dropping the tranny and found this on the passenger side intercooler piping entering the intercooler. it's a small hole. Maybe quarter inch.. definitely drilled, not worn.. does this have any purpose? Or am I looking at a boost leak?

Who ever had the evo before you probibly had a fitting there for MBC/Wastegate. There is defintally not supposed to be a random hole.

 

Gotcha. Is it leaking boost? My boost gauge is reading fine but if it's a problem I'll plug t otherwise i never would have noticed it.

 

You have a hole in the piping and you are asking if it is leaking boost????

 

That hole is not supposed to be there. That is definite boost leak. I would thread and plug the hole with a bolt.

 

With a hole like that leaking isnt quite the best word to describe it. I would call it dumping boost. Get that fixed asap.

 

If it's in the ICP you will definitely be leaking (bit of an understatement) boost, but it seems strange that you have had no ill effects from it.

Random (and very unlikely) thought. The previous owner had trouble with overboosting so they drilled a hole to leak boost and prevent it?

 

Yes absolutely no side effects at all. Builds boost perfectly fine.. I run anywhere from 22 to 27 with an MBC no problem. obviously I suspected it to be a major boost leak but I never noticed anything so had to ask... I'll defiinitely get it fixed. Ran time in sig like this. So this is odd.

 

does it idle fine? did you tune it yourself? because if it's tuned for this hole it might run a lil different when you plug it up.

 

Wouldn't having a leak that bad cause the turbo to work harder at creating boost?

 

Nope bought it like this. I didn't tune it. But will after the new tranny is in.. Good point maybe the Turbo was just working harder to hold boost and just enough i hardly noticed.
