i live in the springs and had the same problem this morning. went to start it and it took about 15-20 times to get it going. i did some searching a little earlier and decided to change the IPW adder settings. i found a thread from some guy in alaska that tweaked his and wasn't having any problems. i just flashed this onto the car tonight, so i'll find out in the morning if it's going to help.

Well not too much luck this morning. It took me 3 tries to get it started, but it wasn't as cold as it was yesterday. So I don't think there was much change from before.

The real issue here is that ethanol has a problem with the cold starts because of its low vapor pressure when in cold climates. There are ways to help the issue though and it will be computer related, so find a helpful tuner you can pay to help out your cold starting issue and that should make a considerable difference.

The 0w oil will help the motor stay properly lubricated in very cold temps but is completely unrelated to the OP's issue.

... a little FYI for ya.
True, but those countries also are using a hydrous ethanol containing up to 8x as much water - which causes an even higher drop in vapor pressure.

Also i have a setup coming that ill be tuned to almost 500whp. Can i fill with 91 than either or should i always go with 93the with 10% ethenol?
You should make your own thread instead of jacking one about E85 cold starts....

So changing my oil to 0 w 30 doesn't really seem to have helped much at all. I'll hopefully be able to see my tuner this week, but we'll see.

After a week with the IPW ADDER settings changed, it has helped a lot. I was even having an issue with warm starts (after sitting for 15-20 minutes) and I haven't had the issue since. Just waiting for a real cold day again to really see how it does. I recommend trying to change the settings if you haven't already.

I am in Colorado Springs on E85 and mine was having issues starting as well. The Values for Cranking IPW map were set to low. Now it starts right up. Maybe check that out?

Can you link the thread that worked for you? I've been searching for a bit. I found one from Australia, but I don't think they get as cold as us in CO.

I couldn't find that thread either. I just decided to go back to 91 for the winter. As far as I'm concerned it was a good decision. I don't need the extra 60/70 hp for the snow and my car starts up first try every time.

I can't find that damn thread anywhere now. I think I might have bookmarked it on my laptop. Ill check when I get home. If anything, ill just post the values that I put in the IPW adder settings. Even last weekend when it got down to around 10 degrees I went out in the morning and it cranked right up. Still haven't had any problems with starting since I changed those.

I may do this too. It will also clean the injectors (at least that's what I heard).

Thanks! I'd really appreciate that!

alright, i don't have it bookmarked on my laptop, but here are the settings that i have on my car. ill do some steps just in case you don't know where to go.

1. expand "fuel"

2. check the box for Cranking Enrichment IPW adder (main). to be able to click on mine i had to go to file/options/user level, and change it to advanced.

3. change the inputs to the following using alt+] and alt+[

-32 360.0
-18 240.0
-8 120.0
7 60.0
20 16.0
34 7.0
50 3.5
77 1.5
82 1.5

the thread that i used to get these settings also had changes for battery voltage and fuel enrichment, but changing the IPW is all i did and it's worked great for me. i was considering going to 91oct for the winter, but theres no way i could after using the e85. so im glad this has worked out.

i think i said earlier in the thread that these changes also helped me with my warm start issue. i was having a problem if i turned the car off for 10-20 minutes, i would have a hard time getting it started again. give it a try and let me know how it works out!

My Subaru did the same thing when I was running e85 I noticed if u pork the engine it helps it start,(ignition on until u hear the fuel pump cut of, turn car off and repet) I did that about 3 times then fired it up and it made a big difference. Just my 2¢
