Track car or Show car?
Track car or Show car?
Just curious , how many of you:
(1) Keep a mostly stock exterior, run your car into the ground and beat your Evo up at the track or
(2) Stay away from the track, install nice/rare parts, wheels, etc and build your engine to produce a bunch of power that you'll never use or
(3) Fall somewhere in between

+1 - occasional rally fun on dirt/gravel, beat's the paint up a bit, have done three track days and then drive 700 miles back and forth from Ohio to NYC regularly.
only way to do it.

26K miles: 4 sets of tires, 3 sets of pads. Raced the car a few times. The rest is all-street. I utilize the car's performance envelope every time I'm behind the wheel. Honestly, I don't get this "designated enthusiastic driving" thing. You're either a car guy or you're not. It's that simple.

(4) Install nice/rare parts, wheels etc, and build the engine to produce a bunch of power, and then beat it up on the track anyway.
I fall into the #2 category. The amount of free time I have does not allow for much track action, nor am I going to beat up my DD. Perhaps if I one day pick up another DD I may track it. I don't know that I'll ever drag race the car, I couldn't give two $hits what it does in a drag race. I just want t o know it's quick and reliable, good enough for me.
I love the fact that the IX can go from granny-style putting around town to blasting through freeway exits with near reckless abandon and not bat an eye. Have a truck bearing down on you that can't get over and you need to merge? 25 psi from an HTA71 says "no problem." I appreciate all that the EVO can do, it's just not in the cards for me to put it on a track. I have to learn to drive it at the limit in that environment first anyway.

+1 for #1. These cars love to be driven. I prefer to drive mine hard.
Now thats not to say I dont like nice parts on my car.. but I am much more concerned with performance than the way it looks. Hell my car is plasti dipped right now.

I may have misread the question - my car in no way resembles a "show car" though I did buy it with a CF hood (PO hit a deer, whoops). When I think "nice parts" I think only in terms of high quality "power" mods. Derp.
