Few questions about my Evo..

Ive had my 03 Evo just about 2 weeks now, and having never even been inside one, let alone own one, theres a few questions Ive had about them.

First off, is it standard on all the Evos that if the key is on, the instrument cluster lights are on? Never seen a car do something like this.

Along those same lines, my instrument cluster dimmer doesnt work. If the cluster is just on with the key, or with the parking/headlights on, the cluster dimmer doesnt change anything either way I roll it.

I noticed this in the garage yesterday: My car has factory HIDs with the adjustment switch on the inside. I tried all the positions, and then left it at 0. The car was off, so I could hear the motor for the headlight making noise. The passengers side headlight will constantly re-aim itself up and down while on 0, but when I turn it to 1, they both level out. Any way to fix that?

This is going to be a long shot, but Im used to this from my 2g: Is there any way to turn the fogs on with just the parking lights?

Any idea under what circumstances the intercooler sprayer will activate while in auto mode?

I think I had a few more random questions floating around my head, but thats enough newb for now. Thanks in advance!

- The instrument cluster lights are always on. It is because mitsu made the cluster red and it is easier to see it with the lights on during the day.

-The dimmer not working has something to do with electrical. First make sure the switch is plugged in.

-The HID issue is also a electrical or mechanical issue. There might be corrosion on the motor.

-You can make the fogs turn on with just the parking lights. The process is almost like doing it on a DSM. There is a write-up in the how-to section of this site.

Most of these questions can be answered by just doing a search.

Thanks for the replies. I tried searching a few of the topics, but between me probably not using the right keywords, and my computer being a stone age piece of ****, I get frustrated early. Going from a 2g, which I knew inside and out, literally taken anything/everything apart on, and go to a car that once seemed unattainable to me, its a weird feeling. I feel like Im 16 again working on my first car.

Haha thanks man. I actually just saw your thread about 100k miles on your Evo a few mins ago, I was like hey that cats on 2gnt. Wish I could have had the opportunity to get a brand new Evo, be it an 8 or a 9. Mine actually just rolled over 111k miles. Kind of high for an Evo, but beggars cant be choosers, and a buddy of mine owned this car so I know it was taken care of.

Yeah my passenger headlight also tweaks out and shifts up and down. I can't offer you any solutions but at least you know your not alone.

- cluster is one setting with or without lights on off or whatever

- i dunno about usdm but i have a jdm 8 and thers a seperate button for fogs? i can turn my fogs on without having any lights on

- intercooler spray has to be manually pushed, the auto will never spray as the stock setting never gets hot enough to spray, this has to be changed with a tune i've heard

the search function, generally, does not work very well on here. Sometimes I get lucky, but usually sift through tons of garbage, or useful acronyms are too short to be searched.

My HID's do the same thing on my IX. I just leave them at the next setting.
All the 2GNT guys are finally upgrading. Yup. I started there as well. (eclipzGST)
Oh, and welcome to EvoM. Enjoy your new (to you) Evo!!

I never thought of trying the fogs without headlights. I gotta go try that.

I filled my sprayer bottle a couple of times during the summer. The weather was hot so I ran it in auto. This fall with it starting to freeze at night I figured I'd better put some washer fluid in the bottle to keep it from splitting. It was empty. So, the sprayer runs, stock program, on the streets during a record Nebraska summer.

I just tried mine, fogs have a seperate button as Im sure they all do, and pushing the button with no lights or just parking lights yeilds no results. You also mentioned your car is JDM. As far as I know, the EDM/JDM Evos have a very strict (more so than the USDM) program for the auto intercooler sprayer, and that the USDM auto sprayers work more readily. Im also thinking that because of the countries across the ponds weird auto lighting laws, that having just the fogs on without the headlights is a JDM thing. For what its worth, you cant do this on 2006 Eclipses either. In fact, I had to disable the DRLs on my GFs because they were killing her HIDs.

I appreciate all the replies, especially because Im basically another Evo Newbie, and I know the same questions can get really old.
