Any Evo owners still using the (original) stock clutch?
yeah. 119,000 stock clutch. had car since 2006, with 8,000 miles on it. i drive it every single day. 76 miles a day. sometimes more. but my car is darn near stock with bolt ons and spirited driving. very few launches, and 5 times down the 1/4 mile.
77k on my evo 8 03' stock clutch,
Hks 272's
Hks turbo back exhaust,
Hks intake,
Ets intercooler
Dnp turbo manifold,
Stock evo 8 turbo running stock boost.
Minimal launches and its a daily driver/traffic use

It really depends how you drive your car.
Mileage also matters, but for 30K, I wouldn't much worry about it unless it's your 1st manual transmission car.
Also,if I remember correctly, WHP doesn't really matter, the matter is torque. I've seen a lot of people said stock clutch holds 300~350 whp, 300~340 wtq without a problem.
If you are going to track your car a lot, abuse, any other motorsports and mod your evo more than cams/bolt ons, then I'd suggest you to change your clutch.
If it's gonna be your DD, then just drive your car with your stock clutch untill it slips.

Oh btw, one of my friends still drives on stock clutch and it actually started slipping a year ago, but he still drives fine LOL he has been put 15K miles more since then..hahaha
stock original clutch, not the first owner, but it was a good sign the car wasn't beat to death.
just hit 71XXX miles.
272's, 9 turbo, intake/exhaust and @23psi
I'll be honest and say I beat on my car pretty often and its my daily driver. No slip yet though. I've put 11K miles on it since I bought it.
I think stock clutches got a bad rap early on where everyone bought these things up and wanted to launch them/beat on em.
Most people can't drive. There is a lot of weight and AWD to deal with, so if you can't drive you'll burn a clutch up in short order in an evo.
I'm pretty impressed with the stock clutch personally.

This is all news to me. Coming from a Competition Stg4 6-puck to an Evo with a stock clutch, I'm actually looking forward to driving in traffic. Thanks for the feedback.

The stock Evo clutch doesn't like a lot of heat. So, don't offer to teach somebody to drive a stick using your Evo. It will quickly smoke if slipped. Get on and off the clutch quickly when shifting gears rather than trying to be extra smooth. If you do smoke the clutch and it is slipping it may not be shot at all, just let it cool off.
So, anyway, how long the stocker lasts pretty much depends on how you treat it.

This is good information to me as well... My recently purchased IX has 32K on it and has the original clutch, it has a few tasteful mods, and I was considering upgrading the clutch to the Exedy Twin in the future when I do an e85 conversion... but I think I may just do the conversion, buy the upgraded clutch at a later date until the OEM clutch wears out... I by no means am hard on my car that often, so I think it would work out fine... depending on what those dyno numbers for torque say...
Good thread here!

I had my stock clutch for 8 years and 70k miles it wasn't slipping at all when I upgraded it. Driven every day. My wife "refined" her manual driving on the car, it's been to HPDE with about 300whp. The key was I never really launch the car and its been well maintained. Once you do those and don't have crazy hp/torque the stock clutch will be fine.
