drivability and life for quartermaster 8 leg.

Hey people wondering what your guys experience is with dd drivability of the 8 leg on the street. Also for daily driver not slipping the clutch constantly what's the average life on this clutch that is 800.00 average for rebuild. I'm sure this has beat in the ground. If you have a smart @$$ comment to post please don't waste your time. I realize the life span of a clutch is based on how it used. In simply asking based on more of a daily driver/ downshifting toy.

I've got about 1,500 miles on my 8-leg and I can tell you it's not much of a joy to drive in heavy stop and go traffic or as a daily driver period. I just pulled it off a few weeks ago when I had my trans out and inspected it. Had about 800 miles on it and looked pretty much like new, hadn't launched it just had lots of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th street pulls on it. I mean it's manageable, but by no means fun to negotiate daily city commuting. It's loud and grabby and people look at me funny when leaving gas stations or taking off around crowded areas like somethings wrong cause it's noisy and chattery (doesn't really bother me). On the other hand, I don't think there's another clutch for the price that will hold the kind of power that the 8 leg will and as long as you don't launch the **** out of it a bunch and get it super hot and warp the plates it shifts like a dream at high rpms. If you launch it frequently, im sure the life span drops dramatically.

thanks man. Is it particularly bad as far as pedal pressure or is it more of a rpm issue as far as revving in stop and go traffic?

i just had the qm street installed along with all new syncros, been using exedy twin hd, last exedy lasted over 60,000 miles of driving it every day but i only launched it about 10 to 15 times, on the two step that is. so i'm kinda scared as far as how long the qm is gonna last? so far i love it! the pedal pressure feels less than stock!! and the exedy in friday chicago traffic would give you a charley-horse, this thing is a dream. you get used to the quick grab real fast, kinda noisey, but mine as most of our cars are so loud that i hardly notice it i drive round trip approx; 95 miles a day, mostly expressway but a lot of city driving to, so i should be a good lab rat for this thing, seeing as i don't hear much in the way of miles put on as a daily. sorry for the rant its the beer. 1,400 miles and counting.g/l with your new clutch, in for up-dates

as for taking off its not that bad, but does make people look when it squels a bit when you get the initial slip, just a bit tho, but you don't have to bump it more than like 1600 to 1800rpms or so and high rpm shifts are butter clutch feels like it loves to be speed shifted

Cool mark. Sounds good. I've had a few too lol. As far as revving to 1800 rpms that's not bad. I had a comp stage 4 in my evo x before I got a ix and if you didn't rev out to over 2000 rpms the clutch sounded like it exploded in the housing lol.

A pedal stop helps quite a bit as well.

I used it for short period of time. I like the grab of this clutch, clutch pedal feel. I hated noise it made from take off and between shifts. Its not for daily driving for sure. If you can bare with those, this is the best clutch for money.

its definitely an awesome clutch. like every one else has said, its pretty noisy. iv noticed with mine that the grabbyness wasn't to dramatic if I did a lot of mellow driving. but if I got buck wild and put the clutch to work, then it had a very ignorant grab on take off for a couple of days. you get used to it though. mine actually failed as of last weekend. I haven't removed it to inspect the damage yet. it has @ 25k miles on it. 90% of highway miles. one launch. I will be ordering another quartermaster cuz i'm very satisfied with its performance and smooth shifting.

I have inconsistent clutch engagement points. Its all over the place. Also the longer i drive the weirder the clutch engagement point becomes (maybe not weirder but definitely gets more grabby the longer i drive on it).

I'm trying a forum members suggestion on using a 2G eclipses clutch solenoid to see if it helps with initial engagement.

I have about 15k on it between 2 different cars. Waiting on the parts and i will be doing oil and brake fluid change this week to see if it helps.

This might have to be my next clutch,
very impressed by the comments so far.

So far I've had:
Comp Clutch Stage 2
ACT HDSS

I will be converting my 6 leg to the newer gear drive style hubs in the very near future. From what I know of the older style hubs, they didn't hold up well.....the newer discs make all the difference I hear.
