I know that my 2004 RS has an aluminum hood. My buddy had an '05 JDM RS that had an aluminum roof. Did certain years/models of Evo VIII/IX's, have aluminum as opposed to steel trunks? Thanks!

 

All EVO's have aluminum hoods. 05+ RS models and all MR models have aluminum roof panels. All RS models had aluminum trunks I believe.

 

The trunk question is something I don't know, I think they all have Al trunks..... never seen a steel one.

 

All MR/RSs have Al trunks.

 

Are we sure about this? I thought all the trunks were the same and are also shared with the base lancer?

I'm at work right now but I will see what my trunk is made out of when I get home.

Ive got an 05 SSL or GSR for this purpose. Will someone with an MR and an RS take a magnet to their trunk and see if it sticks?

This. No Evo came with an aluminum trunk lid.

All Evos have aluminum hoods and front fenders, 8/9 RS/MR/SE models got aluminum roofs, all X models besides the MR Touring got aluminum roofs.

 

If I am not mistaken JDM RS has an aluminum trunk . USDM are all steel.

 

All Evo trunks are steel, except old factory grp A evos and wrc

 

Yeah that's right...the EVO RS doesn't have an aluminum trunk, but it does have a thinner steel trunk than the standard cars.

 

^^+1. Not aluminum, pretty sure it's the lowest possible grade steel too..every evo I see in the Chicagoland area seems to have rust forming under their wing haha.

 

OK def not an aluminum trunk hahaha just checked.... its not like its low grade steel, it serves no structural purpose so its not going to be hot stamped high grade..... mits corrosion protection just sucks a big one.
