Put my exhaust on last night, tapers to 2.5" at the cat..

My current test pipe is a 3". The gasket they give you is 2.5.. My 3" gasket leaks.

Wtf?

I would guess you have the wrong pieces? It def shouldn't taper to 2.5" unless you had it going to the stock exhaust? Which would make no sense.

A lot of the Japanese exhausts come that way, it is a taper down to the factory cat. Seems like there are several options here other than getting a different exhaust.

1. Cut the taper off the mid-pipe and have a 3" piece of titanium tubing and flange $$$ welded on.

2. Cut off the taper and cut off the flange on the test-pipe, add a few inches to the test-pipe ind use an exhaust sleeve clamp

almost ALL japanese exhausts are going to taper. The reason is that 80mm piping (jdm) is bigger than 3", and doesn't allow nuts and bolts to fit next to the piping when bolting up to the cat. The taper is negligible in power. Dont sweat it.

It isn't that I'm worried about losing HP. I have a fully built motor and 35r..

It's causing a problem in the sense I get an exhaust leak that is unavoidable. Because the flanged don't bolt up to each other because of the size..

Touge Factory sells a 3" flange. I don't know if I can sacrifice chopping off that small portion and pulling back the exhaust. I purchased the version made for jdm bumper which is already shortened. An extra inch can throw off the whole thing as far as hangers goes they will be pulled forward.

Wow that's crap. I guess your only true way to fix it is to cut it out. BTW that taper will hurt power by restricting the exhaust...

if its the gaskets leaking just go to autozone and get a sheet of gasket maker. i had to do that on my prelude for my headers. I also got the gasket putty ****. never had a problem after that.
