It's 100% fine to drive with the pump off the car. The guy who invented the rebuild kit drove his around for 40k miles with it off the car. Like a poster said it just makes it an open diff at that point. I love quick posters who love to comment on things they know absolutely nothing about.... Fake know it alls.......

I think the ACD's going in my RA. I intermittently get the chime then it goes away on the next start. It seems to be happening on the warmer days.

What exactly happens to the driving characteristics when the ACD stops working and the center diff starts functioning like an open diff?

Not sure about only ACD but when i lost my ACD/AYC pump, the car is lazy out of corners, didn't feel as sharp and doesn't drive like a "point and power" setup anymore. I should really fix my ACD/AYC pump.

The 3 of you are wrong.

As for the fluids for the ACD pump, Wouldn't the gear oil in the TCase be what is supplying the fluids for the clutch pack (if the clutch pack is even submerged in the TCase fluids)?

If this is the case, it would just be like driving around with an open differential.
This man speaks truth. The ACD pump has nothing to do with lubricating the TC, it is only used to allow locking of the TC. The car will drive like an open-diff car, but nothing will be damaged. I drove on a dead ACD pump for 2-3 months (including one track day) and my tcase is just fine.

Does the handling get much worse with a bad pump?

I did notice a small difference on track but it wasn't enormous.

Yes, i took a corner real hard car kicked out easily i compensated for the oversteer and when i did it freaking locked causing it to come back and almost lose it.
It was like WAY oversteered into and correcting the turn, untill it locked up.
Now thats its non ACD its Way different for me, it dead on correct now and does what its supposed to do, but there is a quaife Front diff in it too

Like it didnt slip correctly thru the turn, then lock up late after the fact.
I had a serious issue with my Tcase thou, My Trans to CV shaft, the one that goes into the trans to the Tcase was SPUN HARD into the Center Differential, like it spinned at a dramically different Rate then the Center diff.
It was totally chewed up.

I think my ACD pump is gone, not just on and off but it's not working 100%. The message comes up every time I start the car now, was intermitent before when it was colder out.

Last night picking up my gf from class, I was going into the BQE and if anyone knows the atlantic avenue onramp, it's freaking near the end of a 45 degree downhill corner on the highway. Think like, putting an onramp entrance right in the middle of the corkscrew at laguna seca. So I floored it going on and I felt the back end slip out and I was like, odd.. I never got any oversteer like that before.
