my day was great until....
Today had been good up until an hour ago.
Hopped in the evo to go pick up my step girl from daycare and noticed a squeeking sound. I heard this sound yesterday morning as well. Today i decide its time to do an inspection since i had heard this sound less than 6 months ago. Rewind 6 months ago, and the sound was a blown factory strut with tein s springs. I had the repair priced at 1200 dollars to have all the struts replaced. Not willing to shell out that kind of coin to be at the exact spot i was i figured i would spend the money on a set of coilovers since they were on my parts list in the future. Fast forward back to todday and guess what my problem is?
The factory blown strut came from just old age. I dont think the previous owner had ever had them replaced as he claimed. The car had around 118k miles when this happened. It was the drivers front strut. Now the car has 122k miles and its the rear driver side ccoilover thats blown. I havent hit any pot holes, and have barely put 5k miles on them. The car was aligned the day after install, and they were not adjusted down much since they sat around the same height as the tein ss out of the box. I set both the front and rear dampening directly in the middleand tightened the preload on them some to give them a better feel.
What would cause this after only 5 months other than a facctory defect? Thats all i can think it could be since they havent seen abuse. Im still guessing its blown at this point since the driver side rear is sagging lower than the other side by half an inch and i havent touched anything since alignment, but when my girl gets off work im going to take the wheel off and document everything. Hopefully this will be warrantied. I am going to document and take pics and update this as much as possible, and if they are not warrantied i will pursue further action as well as post names of shops and individuals and brand of coilovers as this is not fair to me. Over 1k dollars and it didnt last but 5k miles and less than 6 months is ridiculous. Im F*****G PISSED!!!

$1,000 = cheap coilovers (unless you bought used and got a great deal). what are they, megan, raceland, etc?
i would say product defect...hard to imagine installation error causing 1 corner to fail after 5k miles.
contacting the manufacturer would be my first step.

Says over 1k dollars. I will not say what brand or any info of that nature uuntil i find out if the place i got them from will warranty them. Its a tough situation to describe when i say individual, shop and brand. Basically a guy i know use to work for a place that does alot of online selling. I think he moved to TN from the shops location and still sends them customers/ places orders since he gets discounted pricing. That is what he did here was sell me a great brand for a very low price. I have contacted him first. He has said to document everything, and he will inform the place he use to work for, and they will contact the manufacturer. If this doesnt work out i will take it upon myself to contact the place he works for or use to work for and the manufacturer myself.
Sorry i should have been more specific, but these arent cheap megan racing, or raceland which i have never heard of. From what i understand they are suppose to have a one year warranty i think, but given the circumstances of buying from him since he had the "hookup" with this shop and they wwere shipped to him and not me, i dont know how this will turn out... probably not good on my end.

Also should add when they arrived, i installed them out of the box the way they were to see what would need adjusting. I leveled the car up with how they sat brand new and went for a quick drive. I then adjusted the dampener setting to midway. I did so by turning the knob counterclockwise to the end and back clockwise and counted the number of times it clicked. Once set in the middle, i adjusted the preload a little to tighten the ride and eliminate what little body roll the car had. I drove it again to get them to settle. I then adjusted the dampener again bby 3 clicks tighter in the front and 2 in the rear, adjusted the ride height back down to where it was previously since the preload being tighter raised the car by maybe a 1/4 of an inch. After that the car was aligned and is still the same settings till this day. And the car is in no way dumped, slammed, stanced, hellflushed, scraping, scratching, dragging, or any of that stupid bs. The car sits the same height maybe half an inch lower than it did on tein springs. The rear coilovers have probably 3 more inches of drop to them in case i ever received a head injury and suddenly felt the urge to stance or ruin my car.
