Evos and Auctions
My boyfriend works a dealership and before I picked up mine, I would have him keep an eye out every now and then to see what came up. They got Evo's, but they were always higher miles then I wanted. They were 40K+ and I wanted something with less than 25K. He always said they were in great condition and priced really well, but I always passed. It seemed that they got a lot of black and silver. Those were the only colors he ever saw.
As for Ebay, one of my friends actually bought one of his cars off Ebay (not an Evo) and I'm guessing everything went smooth. Only thing that sucked was the shipping. Pretty much his car was the first loaded so the last to be dropped off so he had to wait longer than expected. But he didn't have any issues with it and he was happy with how it turned out.

Anyone else have input? Seems that it is likely that I will have to ship a car anyways if its not within several driving hours away from me...

I know they go to some auctions in CT and some in MA. I'm not sure what exactly they are called or where they are. I can tell him people are looking for Evo's and give him some things to have them look out for and he will let me know. I think they go 1-2 times a week.

I'm just looking for a "well" priced evo with low miles like you did
There's a black one in NJ with 14,000 miles and the dudes asking 20k.. sounds reasonable to me. The place in the city is no more, I can't find a trace on them or nothing.

I saw that one! It's pretty much at 15k and it's 450hp but can easily go 550/600 on pump gas! Seems pretty cheap for an evo 9 don't you think?
agreed, I wouldn't buy one from auction unless it was a really good deal. You also need to be prepared to deal with ANY kind of problem that can come up, anything can happen, though that can be said for buying any used car really.
Seems like it would be a good deal. But like somebody said, anything could go wrong when buying a used car. You could buy it, drive it off the lot and have something happen to it. You just never know!

Remember that our car is a built for one purpose only: performance.
Always acknowledge the info at hand, but verify w/ sound mechanical expertise.
But back on topic, if auctions were such a high risk issue, we would have heard it by now. Use sound judgement and you'll be fine. Look for clues, prob a good idea to look at the tire tread wear, check to see if any mods have been done, check the wiring to see if someones made a hole through firewall for more aftermarket goodies...
Bring a buddy/conscientious objector and I'm sure if you start trying to buy some dumb sh** he'll tell you. Common sense dude.
Well regardless wether you buy the cars at an auction or not they will probably tell you on a need to know basis on the boardlines of just selling the car not every dealer will tell you whats actually happened to it especially if theya re trying to sell it. Its just a matter of things being exposed in time about the car and thats it.
Be careful not to fall into the mindset that low mileage evo is in better condition than a high mileage one. If someone has low miles 8 times out of 10, its their weekend toy and if its someones weekend toy you think they're driving like gma to pick up groceries? On the flip side a high mileage evo might be someones DD and they drive it spirited but never abuse it (me).

As far as the auctions, on some of them, the public aren't allowed in. Some of them you have to have a dealers license and/or be associated with the dealer. If your not, you can't get in. That's why I would have him look out for me, he's probably one of the only people I trust to do these things for me, so it's good to have somebody you know that isn't just trying to make money for the dealership (not saying everybody will do that, but ultimately friend or not they want to make money on the car). I would have him text me a picture or car plus miles and if it was something I might have been interested in I'd say yes or no and go from there.

I'll see if I can find out more when I get out of work for you.
