Evos and Auctions
We have auctions here, there are a few different types.
1) dealer Auctions, Basicly a dealer takes a more "after market" car in as a trade, cant sell at a dealership and would better pass it on to another dealer in or outta state or a consumer at the auction, also from time to time you get the insurance Salvage vehicle [well rebuilt when they auction it] here.
2) Police auto auctions, This is fun problem is you cant drive the car, you can only look at it, Bid and pay CASH on the spot, No checks no credit Cash is king here.
Both are fun, ive seen some beyond stock evos at the dealer auctions. That a reputable dealer took in as a trade prolly for a new car for someone, and the evo is just way to far from stock so they cant really sell it at there place.
When i sold my 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS it had all the dealer options on it, like every single one they can do and a supercharger SO when i sold it back to the dealership. The sales guy even told me it was headed off to the auction cause of the Supercharger and the fact of all the "added" options. Even thou they were a Dealer added option [Borla exhaust,Ground effects, fuel door, SS shifter knob]

I'm always weary about auction, whether it's eBay or anything else. Unless you know the full history of the car, then I wouldn't bother, since it could potentially becoming a $$$ mistake very soon. Not to mention that it'll be a car that's going to be beaten on by previous owners.

If you know what you are looking for, you can make really good money flipping auction cars. There is a reason people get paid to do nothing but be auction buyers for certain dealerships. Auctions can cover lease returns, cars that don't match the dealers image, cars with modifications etc etc. I know of an Audi dealership in Minneapolis that pretty much auctions anything that isn't ridiculously high end or Audi that comes in - your bmw/mercedes/lexus/non-turbo porsche etc etc go directly to the auction block.
^This is the reason a lot of evo's find their way to auction. They are hard for most luxury dealerships to sell because the people who show up to look at them are generally tire kickers and are outside of their salesmen's comfort zones. Evo's are also the stepping stone for a lot of people getting into a BMW/Audi etc. so you see them traded in a lot- many times with mods the dealerships can't effectively sell. This isn't to say that you don't have to be careful, but a carfax, some specific knowledge, and some common sense can get you a great deal at auction.
Eh, you'd be surprised. If a dealer gets a car in on a trade and it just sits and sits and sits, they aren't making money on it. So they just send it to the auction because they know somebody (hopefully) will buy it. Especially if its a car that isn't their normal car. (Like a Mistu at a Chevy dealership). I know a lot of dealers around here will do it just to make space and a quick buck on a car they got and don't want to deal with trying to sell it.
I'd avoid wholesale evos like the plague. Most people can sell them on the street quickly enough and for much more than they'd get on a trade in. I've seen some awful Evos at auctions.
