Do you guys trust vis racing?
While I don't have anything VIS related on the Evo, I do have a VIS CF hood on my daily, and I love it. The fitment was perfect and it's held up against some serious things (like a huge tree falling on my car when we got hit with Sandy). I've had it for about 4 years, it's a little faded, but not bad since my car does sit outside year round.
I wouldn’t wrap it. I think those raps look super fake and stupid. Why would you want the pattern but not the actual thing. I don’t get it. And not sure what hoods you have weighed but mine was deff lighter. And again you would have to be retarded to swap a evo hood for weight reduction............ I’m rocking a vis good on my evo. Had it for 2 years and it still looks brand new My car is kept in the garage. The hood vent shroud fades but looks good again once waxed. Also right above the head lights it tapers off along the fender line. Does not look bad, just puts a small gap there. So far, i have no complaints for the price.

I have their hood and the trunk lid. The trunk lid is a POS and the hood is... workable. The trunk lid is like a catapault, and the unwary person hanging out back there may catch it in the chin if not careful. I'm going to either paint it or sell it. Going back to OEM for both.

I have had good and mixed results with VIS hoods. Actually ALL mid level carbon fiber products. That being said, I run a VIS hood on my project car, and very happy with it, and about to order one for my Evo.
Now, I have seen this "The stock hood weighs less" comment a MILLION times on this site... but I have never seen any proof of this.... just a million people making the statement that 999,999 others said before them...
The only numbers I found are for the Evo X (also an alluminum hood)
(VIS)Hood: 13.4lbs_______________ Stock 19.7lbs
I have not actually weighed them, but I would say by lifting them, the 7-9 hood is similar weight savings. I know for a fact, that my VIS ST185RC hood (same shape and drop vent as the evo) In the Box/packaging it came with is still lighter than the Evo's alluminum hood)
Now, about 8 years ago, I drove to cali, went to VIS's warehouse, and purchased 6 VIS hoods for MR2s (one for me, 5 for my buddies), then trucked them back to AZ. before I gave out the hoods, I mounted all of them on my MR2 to see if there were any problems.
All of them were good. One was great. The only "problem" that they had was that they were diagonally warped from being popped out of the molds and let to final cure without support. However this problem is eliminated with properly adjusted hood pins. The gaps on them was pretty consistant (not toyota gap quality, but still good).
The problem I see is that most carbon fiber hoods are installed by people who don't know how to align body pannels. They are joe ricer, who can bolt on a turbo, but when it comes to understanding spacial relationships, and how to obtain the gaps he wants by adjusting doesn't really know what he's doing.
Another problem is that there are alot of VIS fakes out there. VIS has a name for themselves, and therefore there are a ton of people on EBAY who sell replicas and pawn them off as VIS. Purchase directly through VIS, or a trusted vendor. I set up a ST185 hood group buy about 2 years ago where 20 people purchased hoods for a discounted price. we used the vendor "wingswestoutlet" I believe.... he had me sending payment directly to VIS, who then paid him a commission. Everyone was happy with their hoods.
As for yellowing... Here's the story... What most people don't realize is that carbon fiber is extremely cheap. I pick it up for about $7 per yard in bulk. What's expensive is quality resin. Good quality water clear resin with UV inhibitors is EXTREMELY expensive... As a cost saving's measure, VIS (and nearly all other Chinese manufactured carbon fiber companies) use a medium low quality resin with low UV inhibitors in it. As such, the sun will cause micro-cracks in the resin surface with gives you the yellowing as the sun breaks down the resin.
Unfortunately, this will happen over time given even the highest quality resins. So what I do, before I install any carbon fiber product, is I sand the surface layer of the entire item with a 600 grit sandpaper, so there is a uniform scuff over the whole surface. If it's an item where I know it will get a beating, like a hood/roof on an AZ car, I spray it with ALSA's sunscreen clear, which is a clearcoat with TONS of UV inhibitors. If it's something where it won't get a ton of abuse, or I know I will be upkeeping it like I should. I spray it with a quality clearcoat, or if I don't have access to my spray guns, shoot it with a 2K rattle clan ultra clear, spraymax glamour high gloss clear (please note the 2K... that is a 2 part, catalyzed clear that hardens to an automotive finish... this is not some autozone rattle can)

Friend had a Varis CF hood and it weighed more than stock hood. This was evo 9. I was there with him.
I have a Gialla CF hood, and it weighs LESS than the stock hood. Evo 9 as well.
Haven't tested any others.
