Super noob question(stock frame turbo)

Get your laughs in, but what do you guys mean when you refer to "stock frame turbo"? One of my future upgrades is a turbo swap, but i'm confused what the difference is. Whats a non-stock frame turbo and what does that mean and how are they different. Thanks in advice.

hahaha...nice one... stock frame is the flange type of turbo housing that evo uses(t3, t4, t25...etc)... when they say "oh im going to get an upgrade stock frame turbo" this refers to FP green, reds, bbk, map performance turbos... this means you change only the turbo because it uses the same exhaust housing flange... so it looks stealth or stock dont have to change headers or downpipe... there are pros and cons on the evo stock frame one in my opinion is that stock frame is twin scroll housing so you get better response and torque while upgrading to t3 or t4 style single scroll lags but can get more power up top ... research on what you plan to do with your new car... i went from this size turbo o to O to (@) and its still not enough... if you want 400hp and daily driven and looks stock then buy a stock frame turbo!! hahahaha

Thanks for clearin that up. I want, ultimately, about 600hp. Maybe a gt35r or gt42r. I'm just worried about dreadful turbo lag(this is my dd).

There always trade offs, bigger turbo = bigger lag.

bigger turbo+more lag=less stress on block(pertaining to stock blocks)

His post was accurate, but to put it very plain: a stock frame turbo, you can [basically] replace you stock turbo with and change nohting else. Non stock frame you'll need to change many parts like exhaust manifold, downpipe, etc. and they might need other parts changed to fit properly.

For your 600 hp goal. An FP Black (stock frame turbo) can do 600whp dynojet. If your goal is 600, then stock frame can do it. Other thinds should be done too, I'm not saying put a black on a stock motor and you have 600whp, but talking jsut turbo capability, a Black will do it.

Happy modding!

Ok lets say Im choosing between for black and say a gt35R. Whats the pros and cons of each? Would the gt35r be that much more powerful?

There's tons of comparisons in the dyno section of Evom. You're best off looking there.

I think your question is more legit then mr.noob asking "how much boost can I run on my stock turbo?" lol

-or-

"why does my car run like **** after I took that pipe thingy off my BOV that went to my intake?"

Pump gas you'll need to do a T3 style turbo then, no stock frame turbos will do 600whp on 93oct without being combined with meth.

A precision 6266 or a 3586 (aka the HTA86) should get you close to or a bit over 600whp on 93oct depending on the rest of your mod list.
