Hyundai buying 2004-2006 Evos
Hyundai buying 2004-2006 Evos
I received a flyer in the mail the other day from a local Hyundai dealer stating that they are paying premiums, "in most cases, thousands above market value" of 04-06 Evos and they need to buy them by April 30.
Anyone else get this? I called the person dealer point man who's name and phone number was listed on the flyer. He didn't even know what an EVO was, until I said a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Then he said, 'oh, oh yeah' we're buying ALL used cars in hope of selling them a Hyundai.
Seems to me to be a national Hyundai BS campaign. They even had an Evo pic on the flyer.

Yeah, bait and switch for sure.
I've had 3 dealerships call me about my GTS I have for sale saying "we're low on used car inventory and are very interested in buying your model of vehicle!"
Like previously said, it's just a gimmick to get you into the dealership - they will not buy it, rather they'll try and convince you to trade it in for a 'newer' car that's more reliable/better MPG/safer/you name it - they will 99.9% of the time never buy your car only.
Why would a dealership want to ADD a used car to inventory when its main objective is to sell off its entire inventory as fast and profitable as possible? Especially a Hyundai dealership... I mean old people buy Hyundais faster than they eat applesauce.
Most dealerships have so many used cars they have to send them in legions to auction. Unless of course, they don't sell many new cars with trade-ins.
The only used car dealership I'd semi trust is Carmax, and even then - they'll lowball you. Least you don't have to put up with the manager shuffle.

It has nothing to do with them buying any cars in particular. If you drove an 87 Yugo it would say they are "paying thousands over value for 85-88 Yugos!"
The dealership pays a decent amount of money for vehicle registration records from list suppliers (much like valid phone number lists, valid potential credit customers, etc).
Your name was on the list and your last vehicle registration was correct, so that is what you got the mailer for.
The same thing goes with extended warranty companies. On my '10 Outlander I have gotten "ZOMG YOUR FACTORY WARRANTY ON YOUR 2010 OUTLANDER IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE!!1!1!!!Eleventy!!" since it was 3 months old.
My warranty isn't about to expire and they do not know anything about me or my car except that this vehicle was registered to me currently, so it looks like they are serious ('legit') in their offer.
Same thing happened with your evo. They just want you to buy a new car and paid ~$2 for your name on a list. I guarantee you they will likely pay more than value like they offered if you bought a car..... then they would quickly wholesale your car or send it to auction.

You gotta be careful with trade ins as well, since I work at a dealership a lot of times sales will show you what you want to see on your trade say you want $10000 for the car, they will show you $10000 on the car, but on the other end change numbers so in the end you $10000 trade really doesn't give you $10k on the trade. Always negotiate bottom line price, never "monthly payments." And when buying new you can negotiate interest rate too.
Sorry if I went of topic, but just some info for potential new car buyers.
