evo 7,8,9 nzdm vs jdm

Hi Guys

Just having a discussion with the boys around a few brews before the game....go the Auckland Blues, does anyone know the difference between nzdm and jdm spec evo 7,8 and 9. We know there are clear differences for the evo 10. We cant find any diffinitive data!

Any help would be a great.

Cheers

Probably not a lot. I know there will be a few mapping differences to do with different fuels, pre 2006 JDMs are tuned (and built for that matter) to tolerate up to E3 and NZDMs are tuned and built to tolerate up to E10. Of course there is the speed cut set at 180 for JDM and unlimited (AFAIK) on the NZDM.

I've heard some people claim that the JDMs are underpowered compared to the NZDM, if that is true it will be to do with some form of Japanese regulation (emissions maybe?).

As for hardware on the rest of the vehicle, we were offered the same 3 models here that were offered in Japan (RS, GSR, GT) and the differences between the models are the same (AYC vs LSD, trans options etc) I don't think they would have changed much.

What differences are there in the Xs?

I believe there are power and torque differences from the research I have done. I have heard some people claim that evos 8 and 9 are the same as jdm for NZDM but just not sure.

I am understanding that jdm models are always better for power and torque for instance, evo 10 jdm has 422nm whilst the nzdm only has 380nm or there abouts.

I have only bought jdm in the past however the discussion was raised due to a possiblity of buying a 8 or 9 that was nz new not imported. Obviously I dont want to buy an under powered evo if there are better options avaliable.

Cheers

Any power differences are inconsequential if you intend to modify at all. A remap will make the playing field level again.
