Making your Evo heavier

Most people try to reduce weight in their Evo.
Has anyone ever added ballast/weight to certain sections of the car to handle differently?

Im getting rid of some bilsteins and had them packaged in my trunk, long story short, my car has never handled so well around town, power distribution felt very neutral, and cornering was sharper and crisper.
And traveling at 140mph felt great, very stable.
Most of us agree that getting up to speed from a dig w a 2.0L is a PITA without boost, it was so easy and fun.

Btw I had 70lbs of weight in rear.
Thinking about taking out rear seats and backing and seeing if it still feels just as good

^This..... Either you upgraded your suspension or the suspension you took off was toast lol. In theory it could settle the rear suspension more resulting in less lift in the rear at speed or hard cornering. Are you running a wing?

KW V3's.

I've been driving with the KW's for about a month.
There was a HUGE difference when I added "junk in the trunk" if you will.

I honestly think it was possibly extra weight pushing on the rear tires giving it more grip.

And I'm wingless. But it never had this feeling when I had the wing on....
Feels good..I kinda like it.

I wouldnt say it has anything to do with weight, its the suspension setup, imo

The Evo has a uneven weight distribution. Adding more weight to the rear does help increase handling but you could accomplish the same effect by corner balancing the Evo.

It would stand to reason that even though it "feels" more planted its slower. Adding more weight always slows you down.

This is possible too. Check how still you have your suspension set too. I'f its real stiff and you added weight it could give you that feeling, maybe turn it down a few clicks and see if that gives you the same result.

I noticed this too. I once used my Evo as a moving van - had the back seat out and the trunk filled and the back seat to the roof. I didn't do anything crazy with this load on but I expected the handling to degrade like it would in any other car. Just before this I brought my mother's car (a Honda) from California to Colorado also loaded as a moving van. With it I had to take curves 10 mph below the speed limit. So, I was surprised when the Evo drove like it was empty. This on stock suspension.

Maybe, in rally racing the co-driver should sit in the back seat.

You could use the nasty sticky, heavy dynamat in certain areas? It weighs a good bit

Adding weight in the trunk effectively decreases the rear spring rate, making the ride better. As others have said, making it closer to 50/50 F/R balance (which the Evo will never be) will create a better handling balance.
