2003-2004 evo owners

Well i was just wondering if most 2003-2004 Evo owners non rs would upgrade to a 2005 or 2006 just for the acd or Mivec(2006)? Or would just adding a lsd to replace the open diff be good enough? i understand the 2005 had a bigger hotside and the 2006 has the 9 turbo and Mivec and nicer interior and front bumper (opinions vary on that), but that's all easily interchangeable except the mivec part. Would a 8 with cams, bigger turbo and front lsd etc be comparable to 2005 and up?. For those who own a evo equipped with acd, how does it compare in gravel and snow to a non acd evo? Thanks any opinions are happily welcomed =)

Bought my 03 I wanted nothing to do with ACD honestly. Half the 05-06's I see the damn 3 lights are on anyway

RS, Quaife, or Wavetrack LSD up front and good to go.

Now MIVEC on the other hand I would not mind but once you get into a big turbo/cammed car the benefits narrow substantially

On a mild EVO the MIVEC is def where its at

I agree, I have an 05 and I have a 08 X as well. I really wish I didn't have the ACD. So many issues with them.

I see a lot of people eliminate the ACD system. I would go without it

I wouldn't have minded the MIVEC and a bigger turbo/hotside on my 03 VIII but the rest of the drivetrain stuff from the 05-06's I would have passed on.

Agreed also. I think ACD is just another headache to deal with.

honestly i have an 04, it has been my DD for the past 7 yrs, city traffic, and I still love the damn car.

have driven the 9s and Xs and each has their there "pros" and "cons" but it really depends on the driver. for example the X GRIPS hard, but i prefer the car not using electronics to modulate power, rather just kick the @ss out and drive.

like above, the mivec is pretty sweet. but i added S2s so I am good.

I wouldnt trade my 8 for a 9. (unless maybe super clean WW RS)

I live in a small city of 50,000 and I have the only Evo in town. Nobody here even knows what an Evo is. Last night a trucker stopped me and said, "You have something stuck on your rear window." Then looking, he said, "Is a rear wiper standard on an Evo, I never saw an Evo with one before." So, it takes someone from out of town to even recognize the car.

The nearest shop that can work on my car is 100 miles away. So, owning an Evo is strictly a DIY project for me. Well, when you do your own car work you appreciate simple. I wouldn't want to swap my 8 for a 9 - less things to go wrong and easier to fix.

Stick with an 03-04. Acd is nice, but it's just another thing to break and cause issues. Upgrade your front lsd with a quaife and do the stock rear diff mod (or weir 12 plate, which is completely amazing) and you'll have a completely different car, that's more reliable then the acd equipped evos.

Not trying to thread jack but as I just upgraded a bunch of my drivetrain stuff with Jacks Goodies(TC/Tranny/Clutch) what made you choose quaife vs. wavetrack? I am assuming this is what you did or you wouldn't have made that reccomendation yea.
