Has anyone had this happen.

Something scary happened to me tonight. Started my Evo after work, car turned over but wouldn't start. Tried for about 20 seconds then I opened my door and could smell fuel and hear the sound of liquid spilling on the ground. Quickly turned of my ignition and walked around the back of my car to see fuel running out from under the back bumper. Had my work mates help me push the car foward off the fuel and hosed it away from my car, jacked up the car but couldn't see any pipes or hoses missing or cut. I'm a bit confused at this point but think that I should check the top of the fuel pump assembly under the back seat, I take of the cover and find that the high pressure hose as popped off the pump, which sprayed the fuel over the tank and out under the car. Very lucky that I wasn't driving with a hot exhaust or it could of been the end of my car, gone in a ball of flames.

So the question is - has anyone had this happen to them. It's been 12 months or so since I last has the pump assembly out, to install a walbro, and I haven't touched it since then. Very strange that it would just come off. Maybe I have a problem with some other part of my fuel system that could of caused this. Any ideas?

I replaced my walbro sock a few months back. I've triple checked to make sure all my fuel, feed and return line were bolted correctly. I swear it was on correctly given I done the job plenty of time. It might just be that your hoses weren't securely on correctly. Or this could be a tell sign that something is/was clogged.

I thought all my hoses were secure but the first time I got on it after the install the high pressure line popped off. Turns out that it was a little tougher to get it secured than I thought it should be and assumed since I couldn't move it with my fingers it was set. Lesson learned.

I guess it's possible that it just wasn't secured correctly but I find it strange that I've been driving around for 12 months without it coming off. Was thinking about the blocked bit, anyone have any ideas what could be blocked or if something that's blocked could even cause this to happen. I just put the line back on and drove 35kms home, even giving it a bit on the mountain pass between work and home, with no issues as far as I can tell.

I actually put zip ties around the pressure hose end to make sure that doesn't happen. Sometimes those Quick disconnect fittings are damaged from squeezing them to take them off. I didn't want what happened to you to happen to me. Call me paranoid.

Glad nothing bad happened.

Yup, happened to me and a buddy after we did his pump, Just wasn't clipped all the way in and popped off. Glad it was an easy fix!

Yeah, might of dodged a bullet this time. It's motivated me buy a fire extinguisher for my car as a bit of insurance. I've also taken batty200's suggestion on board and run a zip tie around the connecter just to make sure it stays put. Hopefully it will be the first and last time this happens.
