What should I do???

I was at the discount auto parts buying a k&n oil filter, when a yellow evo pulled up. I got to talking with the guy about our cars, and mentioned how mine felt slow. He offered to let me drive his for comparisons sake, and it felt twice as fast as mine!!! His was also bone stock. I have tightened all the ic piping, and checked every connection, yet I have a slow evo!!!! What the hell should I do? Am I supposed to take it to the dealer and say, "this evo isn't as fast as it should be", at which point they'd say "we'll be the judge of that" and take my car out for a five hour highway flogging, then come back and tell me it feels fine to them? What would you guys do in this situation?

Re: What should I do???

If you don't have a boost gauge, get one -- or borrow one. At the Vishnu dyno day in MD last month, Shiv installed one in a car in less than five minutes, ran the gauge out of the hood, through the driver's window, drove around for five minutes (holding the gauge in his hand/lap?), and then removed the gauge -- total time under 15 minutes.

Other than bad gasoline, nothing will hurt the performance of the car as much as a boost problem...

First get a boost gauge and find out if you are getting stock boost.

All cars or going to have differences in manufacturing. Maybee you got one of the slower ones and the guy got one of the beasts.

I go to chevron. ****tt, my evo is so much faster and I can feel the power. Gas does make a difference.

yea everyone tells me my EVO pulls harder i don't know... and its true GAS DOES MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE..... i always fill up at the same gas station 93's the only thing that goes in the tank...put 91 in 1 time.... will never do that again. maybe you got a EVO that was started on a friday finished on a monday...

PS... a boost guage is a must.... you gotta get one if you don't have one...

Ok. Let me give you an idea of what I'm talking about here. My friends acura cl type s feels faster than my car. I'm not talking about a small difference here guys, I'm taking about my car = SLOWWWW, other evo's = quick. Also, my boost response is horrible, and I don't really see any untill about 3500.

If your boost control solenoid is faulty or stuck, or if the vacuum connections to that solenoid are reversed, you'll have a built-in boost limit to about 10 PSI.

Such a boost restriction does make the car feel very slow, and in fact will rob your car of 50+ HP.

Jeez I hope it's something like that. Looks like a boost gauge is gonna have to go in. Another strange thing is off boost, my car feels a little stronger than other evos, while on boost it feels like crap.

Get a boost gauge immediately. I test drove one Evo before I bought mine and the one I bought felt a lot faster then the other one. It was really weird. Maybe the red Evo's are just faster.

What is a reasonable install price from a reputable shop? I was quoted 55. Will get 52mm greddy gauge tomorrow. I know I'm not getting proper boost.

Is the $55 the price of the guage and they are doing a free install or is is $55 on top of the price of the gauge? What about a gauge cup for mounting? Is that included with the installation or do you have to pay extra for it? It takes about 15 min to install, but if they are giving you the gauge cup then it is a reasonable price at $55 for the install. If not then they are charging the equivelent of $220 an hour for the work

I'll be back tomorrow for an update. If it turns out I am getting full boost I think I’ll have to trade this car in. It's just too damn slow, and I need a warranty.

If a CL-S can beat you there is a problem. Once you put the guage in I think you will see that you have a problem. There have been a couple of people so far that have had the boost control solenoid fail. I think this may be your problem. I hope it is I would hate to see an unhappy EVO owner!
