Help! Help! Help!

Hey guys as you guys might now I bought an Evo from auction not too long ago. I'm having issues trying to figure this **** out. I thought it was my Maf but it's not! I'm having a rough idle at like 1.4k, black smoke from exhaust and it is running rich *** hell. Also my boost solenoid is not hooked up at all yet and need help with figuring that out. Also if anyone is in the Chicago area and could stop by to help it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance and I hope to get this solved QUICK!

take the car to a shop. if you can't figure out hooking up the stock boost solenoid you probably shouldn't be doing the rest of the troubleshooting. that, or start reading and dont start the car until you understand what it's doing

1.4k is not idle. could be a misfire. black smoke is usually unburnt fuel. like demon said, take it to a shop. you could start with plugs and wires, but anyone on here would be grasping at straws without more info, like tuning/stock, mods, things like that. good luck.

the only reason we didnt know it was a boost solenoid was because we thought it connected to the stock airbox. and my uncle is a mechanic and fixes rebuilt cars for a living and works at a shop. Im just reaching out for help to see if anyone might know what this could be or had it happen to them. no need to say that basically im an idiot because i didnt figure out the boost solenoid. also i have a check engine light on if that helps the troubleshooting.....

Your uncle is a mechanic and rebuilds cars. Would he not have an OBD II scanner to scan the vehicle? How would we know sitting behind a phone/computer

Autozone/OReily's perform free OBD2 scans. Go there and tell them you are having issues with the car running and for them to check it out.

Often they can lead you to what might be causing it and give you a parts list to fix it. You don't have to necessarily buy the parts from them either.

That sounds like a mass air flow or throttle position sensor issue. Definitely get the code checked. Without that it's like a stab in the dark.

If you leave the store property with it, they'll need to actually rent it to you. You might not get caught if you dip quick and come right back, but they might be pretty pissed if they catch you.

That said, do a boost leak test, you could have some major air leaks in the charge piping and vacuum system causing it to idle high, and fixing those might clear up some of the other issues depending on what components those leaks affect.

You already know you're missing the vacuum lines and solenoid for the boost control, why not just loop a vacuum line from the boost source to the wastegate actuator and cap off the nipple on the intake for the time being, that'll run you at 12psi that you can at least use to test things.
